Axel’s POV

I could see the exact moment when headlights went off in her head that she was blowing her cover

She let out a nervous chuckle, tucking her hair behind her ear. “I think that makes sense. It’s not like you have to do it anyway.”

Her feet tapped nervously on the ground as if she were waiting for my verdict.

What could I say? Everything she had suggested made perfect sense.

It was like she had seen all possible battles that could ensue there and thought of a counter-strategy. Something I had only seen select generals so, one of which included my father.

Suddenly, she let out a breath through her nostrils, leaning closer to me. “Axel, did I say something wrong? You can correct me if I mess up.”

Her scent was thicker than it had ever been. It was like her wolf was shoving itself at me.

Her wolf was probably still hovering on the surface with the poison still inside her body.

“Axel?” she called my name, her voice softer.

I shook my head to clear the foolish thoughts pooling in my head before I turned back to my desk. “That is a… yes, those were good ideas. I will bring them to my father.”

Her face lit up and she nodded, returning to her bed before I could mention it. Under her watchful gaze, noted down her words and packed up my papers.

As I opened my mouth to tell her that I would come back tomorrow, the exact same sentence from the afternoon flashed in my mind.

Had she not remembered or did she remember and choose not to call me out on practically sneaking into her room in the night when I had given her the impression that she was going to be alone.

“So this was where you were?” Tony said as I stepped out of her room.

I kicked his shin to shut him up as I closed the door.

He frowned, not in any real pain. “Does your girl realize how violent you are?”

“She is not…” I trailed off but the indecision only made Tony smirk. “Shut up.”

His hand swung over my shoulder as we walked. “Come on. I know you guys did not have love on the table when you got engaged but I did not think that was going to happen at all, you know?”

With how many false stories that Tony kept making up to fuel that overly active imagination of his, I should probably consider getting another Beta sooner than later.

“Is Father still in his office?” I asked as we left the hospital into the cool night breeze.

You know Alpha never sleeps. I wonder how him and Luna Diane do it,” Tony started musing out loud, his head getting lost in the clouds. “Perhaps they have some form of schedule-”

“Axel!” Celestia yelled behind us. “Goddess, I have been looking for you for hours. Where were you?”

Tony muttered something to himself before waving and walking away. I stopped to wait for Celestia to catch up before I kept walking.

She chatted animatedly about some new piece of clothing that she got that did not seem that much different from the last piece of clothing that she told me about.

My mind kept hovering around Chloe. Military strategy was the last thing I expected from her. What else was she hiding from me?
