Chloe’s POV

I walked past Jax, bumping shoulders with Hannah who stood in front of the door of the packhouse. I did not need a sage to tell me that she had put Jax up to this.

Jax stormed after me, yelling for me to stop. The theatrics were drawing an audience but I vehemently ignored him, marching right to Luna Diane’s office.

I knocked on the door. “Luna, may I come in?”

“Chloe!” Jax yelled behind me and grabbed my hand. Tony moved his body to block Jax but the files in my hand clattered to the ground just as the door opened.

Luna Diane stood in the doorway, her eyes sharp with irritation. “What is the meaning of this?” she spat.

Hearing his mother’s harsh tone, he flinched but stubbornly insisted on carrying out his mission.” Moonflame just brought an invitation for Chloe. I was trying to advise her that she cannot leave the pack without a chaperone so she should hand over the invitation to Hannah.”

Luna Diane’s face scrunched. Did Jax not hear the words that were coming out of his mouth?

“And what do you think Moonflame will think of Everdeen if we send someone who is not the person expressly invited in their letter?”

Jax paused, taking a few seconds to realize that he was being scolded. “Mother, I was only thinking of the pack’s reputation. Chloe has been learning etiquette, hasn’t she? It is wrong for her to go for an event like that as a minor-”

“Did I ever say that I was not going with a chaperone?” I said calmly, ruining his argument in a single

sentence.

His words dropped from his lips and almost immediately, he found a new comeback. “The invitation does not give the room for a plus one.”

“It is not a ball.” His stubbornness was becoming irritating. “Who tacks on a plus one in the invitation for a casual meeting?”

Jax decided to be a child and turn to his mother for help. “Mother, she-”

“Do you think Luna Silvia is an idiot and does not realize that Chloe is a minor?” Luna Diane clapped back at her son. “She is more well-versed in etiquette than you could ever hope to be.”

Luna turned to me with a raised brow. “What did you come here for? I do not have the time to accompany you on this trip.”

Jax’s eyes lit up, seeing his chance. “Hannah is an adult. She can accompany you as your-”

“Mara,” I said, looking past Luna Diane into the office. The small woman was perched on the edge of her

seat, staring at me with wide eyes. “Would it be alright to borrow her for a few days so she can accompany me to Moonflame?”

Mara shot out of her chair. “Chloe, I am busy with work. You know that.”

Jax stepped closer. “Yes, Chloe. You cannot interrupt pack work on a whim. Now, stop making a fuss.

You know the right thing to do.”
