Chloe’s POV
Reese cracked a small smile, fidgeting in his chair. To anyone’s eyes, it would look like he was just being
nervous but to me, he was intentionally doing this to garner her sympathy.
“Chloe, right?” he asked. “You seem very different from the kind of girl I thought Silvia would hang out
with.”
Suddenly, his eyes widened and his hands flew over his mouth. “No, wait. I did not mean it like that. I’m
not insulting you.”
Sandra held my hands like I was going to jump forward and punch Reese. “She knows that, right, Chloe?”
“Right,” I said, my eyes slightly narrowed as I stared him down.
Reese met my gaze with something akin to annoyance. Good. His acting was not so great that he could pretend to be what he was not around me.
Him and Sandra fell into easy conversation. I chewed on my food slowly, watching them.
There was nothing he was saying that was so funny that warranted that kind of laughing. Now that I was close to him, he was not that very charming either.
He was like every other clumsy, nerdy teenager that just left high school and was now trying to find their footing in college. What exactly attracted her to him that she was willing to sacrifice her familial relationships for him?
He noticed me staring at him and smiled wider, tilting his head. “Chloe, is there a problem?”
A sharp pain zinged through my head. I frowned.
What was that? I just felt something pass through my body.
“I’m alright. Just lost in thought. I have never been this far from home,” I said, giving him a little more to watch his eyes light up.
Finally, he had found something to pick on and talk about.
“What do you mean? Aren’t you dating her family friend?” he asked.
“They just started dating,” Sandra rushed to explain. “It’s been just a few weeks or so.”
I could see the math computing in his mind as he tried to trace which Alpha heir had gotten engaged or found their mate in the past few weeks. And then, try to figure out which of them was so close with the MoonFlame pack.
It did not take him long to figure out who I was. The realization lighting up on his face was almost chilling.

“Ah, okay,” he said, nodding. “If you are wondering, Sandra is a wonderful person. She can be a baby
sometimes-”
“Hey!” Sandra cried and the two of them started bickering again. It disgusted me how in love he looked
with her.
He was just like Jax. Smiling at the girl while messing around behind her back.
“Sandra, you said that the class was at ten?” I reminded, gesturing to the clock above the door of the
restaurant.
She glanced at it and her eyes widened. “Reese! You should have said something!” she said, rushing around to pack her things in a panic.
