Chapter 50
Chloe’s POV
Reese sat straighter alongside half of the class when Axel entered. Alphas seemed to have that effect on most people, even humans. They would not be able to know why they were so entrances, only that they would be.
His gaze was so fixed on me that practically everyone noticed and started turning back to look at my face.
I ducked my head, wanting to disappear into the chair but deciding against it.
I had a genuine reason I was seated in this classroom right now. Last I heard, he was at a banquet with Celestia.
What was he doing here states away?
“That must be his girlfriend,” I heard from a girl to my left.
“They are both beautiful, I guess. Makes me wonder if there is any hope for someone like me.”
They laughed about it before returning to their conversation, breaking out of the fixation on Axel.
His girlfriend? Yes, he and Celestia belonged together. I was just a temporary fix until I sorted out my life and was legally able to leave the pack.
Sandra’s hand tightened around my wrist. “Hey, Chloe. Isn’t that Axel?”
I hummed, unwilling to look her in the eyes. I was not sure which of the emotions swirling in my chest. that she would see: anger, bitterness, irritation, some weird sense of sadness.
“Then who is that bitch hanging on his arm?” she hissed even lower, angrier at Axel than I was at him. When I did not respond, she nudged my hand again. “Chloe!”
I kept my head down. This did not affect me in any way. It did not. In a few days, we would all go back to our respective homes and no one would know that this happened.
“Fine!” Sandra snapped and shot to her feet.
As she marched to the front of the classroom, the entire class fell silent, watching, waiting for the inevitable clash.
Sandra crossed her arms over her chest, staring coolly at Celestia. “Miss Crane, right? I’ve heard about you. I did not know it was in vogue these days to be a homewrecker.”
Sandra’s words swept through the entire classroom. Celestia flushed straight to her hairline and she let go of Axel’s arm.
“You…I don’t know…what you are talking-”

“Oh. So you did not know he had a fiancee?” Sandra nodded, tapping her chin. “I could have sworn that the letter announcing their engagement was sent to your family.”
The murmurs were crazy, starting slowly and then dissolving to a loud noise in the classroom.
Celestia turned to Axel for help but he was not going to escape Sandra’s tongue. “And you. Going out with other women without your fiancee’s knowledge.”
Axel was about to speak but she raised a hand to stop him. “You might have the emotional intelligence of a brick wall but that does not erase the fact that you are cheating. Chloe might be an angel and not call you out on your bullshit but I will.”
She turned and was about to walk away, then she suddenly remembered something. “Right. You will be hearing from my mother soon. As it happens, she loves Chloe.”
Sandra returned to the seat and dropped down beside me. “Do you want to leave? I cannot stand looking at the two of them.”
I shook my head. She could not understand that I did not care. Axel and I were clearly not the picture perfect couple but Hannah had already kind of dug me into a pit at her party by saying that I was in love
with Axel.
If I was really in love with Axel, I would have been the one to confront him and Celestia.
