Chloe’s POV

Celestia’s eyes widened in shock at my tone but I was already on a roll so I kept going.

“Apparently, you could not attend a ball alone so you took him along. Later, you could attend a lecture alone. Same thing. Now, you run to leave and apparently, you need your audience of one as moral support.”

Why was I so angry all of a sudden?

My grip tightened around the pen in my hand as I leaned closer to her. “Granted he is an idiot who is unable to say no when he needs to, but there are only two conclusions I can come to. You either do not understand simple boundaries and relationship rules after your years in etiquette classes or you are a

mental invalid. Which is it?”

Axel tried to step in. If the others were not staring before, they were now. The hunger for a cat fight was radiating in the classroom.

“Chloe-”

“Shut it,” I hissed low on instinct, actually surprised when he fell silent.

I leaned over him closer to Celestia. “I would advise you for your own good to be careful about how you act in public. Taking your bullshit outside of home works the least in your favor.”

If Sandra had not happened to be in my corner, all the standing I had built up with her family on account of me being Axel’s mate would have vanished the moment Celestia walked in through those doors, hanging on my mate’s arm.

Even if Celestia wanted to make that kind of mistake, Axel was an Alpha’s son. He had been navigating social spaces since before he properly knew how to write a paragraph in English.

“You should know better,” I muttered, letting the anger leave my body. I was sure that he heard me when he stiffened.

I could afford to talk to a clan leader’s daughter like that. Even if I was not married to Axel, I was still a member of the Beta family of Everdeen.

Until she managed to get me out of my position, I would remain the Luna in training of the pack. She could not afford the consequences of blatant disrespect which she would suffer if and when this news got back to Alpha Paul’s ears.

Her, I could afford to scold. The Alpha heir who we would be parting ways in a few months time? Not really.

Besides, there was nothing I wanted to say that Sandra had not already said. Maybe this might even be for my benefit.

If he did not call this a date, he had no right to say anything if I decided to have more meetings with Killian and Asher when I got back.

The lecture was surprisingly wonderful. I just kept writing, trying to cram as much information into the book as possible.

I had mostly focused on wolf biology in my high school and college lessons. Human biology was just as fascinating. It was wonderful to compare both species in my head.

“You like biology,” Axel said, staring down at my notes.

I hummed, not wanting this to dissolve into some childish silent treatment. As I reached for my pencil,

he handed it to me.
