Chapter 60
Chloe’s POV
I had no idea when Celestia prepared a helicopter and quite frankly, I did not care. It landed in the yard just ten minutes after she had it called in.
When the doors opened, Alpha David and Luna Silvia quickly rushed in, promising to pay Celestia whatever price she wanted for the helicopter.
“Don’t worry. It is what I should do,” she said and then turned to Axel and Darius with a wide smile. “Are
we not getting on, young Alphas?”
Unlike expected, Axel was the first person to notice. “Are you coming with us?” he asked Celestia.
She nodded. “Of course. It is my helicopter.”
“There are five seats.”
If the Alpha, Luna and their son got one seat each, then that would leave just enough for Axel and
Celestia.
I stepped back, not wanting to turn this into a bigger issue than it ought to be. “It’s not like I am dying. I don’t care for myself. Just bring Sandra back safely.”
Darius and Celestia entered the helicopter. Axel still hesitated, looking back.
He could have such a conscience sometimes that it made me feel guilty for doubting him. “Every second you waste here is priceless. Besides, you have the sharpest senses of the bunch. They will need your help.”
As I said these words, my hands tightened around each other, the nail digging into the skin. My stomach churned with a strange emotion that I just could not figure out.
Axel nodded and entered the helicopter, closing the door behind him. He kept staring at me as it lifted
into the air.
“Stay safe,” I wanted to yell but figured there was no point. Axel was not an idiot who would intentionally put himself in harms’ way.
I turned back into the house, the silence feeling more oppressive than anything. That was when Liam’s voice crackled through the speaker.
He had heard that last bit of conversation.
“You do not love him,” he started.
I could not really deny his words. Two weeks being around him and I knew he was very emotionally
intuitive.
“What makes you say that?”

“This. The fact that you are not laughing me off and calling me crazy or trying to defend your man…it’s almost like you do not care if he is yours or not. Like you know that he is not yours.”
In the past, several people have come to suspect my feelings for Axel but no one had ever directly clocked the entire situation in such a short time.
“Chloe, if you are being held hostage, I can come get you before they come back. You do not need to go through something like this just to survive.”
His words were sweet, an offer that might have sounded a bit more attractive in the few days after Hannah’s party with the declaration from Alpha Paul hanging over my head.
Then again, running away from the pack would have been treason. Alpha Paul would have exiled or killed my entire family in a heartbeat. I did not care much about them right now but I also did not want to be the reason my biological mother died.
Even with all she was doing now or more accurately, not doing now, when it was just the two of us, she gave everything to raise me. I could not be that ungrateful.
“I promise that I am fine, Liam,” I said, smiling softly. “I know what I am doing.”
Liam let out a frustrated sigh. “Chloe, I see a hospital record here and poison too. Are you sure that you
are alright?”
“Your hacking skills have really improved, huh? Actually breaking and entering into encrypted hospital
records.”
I could hear the eye roll. “Are you going to report me or something? Maybe they will bind me up and toss me in some prison. Goddess knows I need some time away from my dad.”
Soft laughter bubbled out of my lips. Three years had passed and he still was complaining about his father’s nagging.
“I thought you would have sorted your issue with him by now,” I said, still slightly amused.
He grumbled a few curses under his breath.
“So did I. I promise you that I actually tried. Then, he had to go and marry some woman with her slut of a daughter. I have found her in my bedroom three times this week in various stages of undress. She is not even trying to hide the fact that she is trying to seduce me.”
His palm slammed down repeatedly on the table. “And father has the audacity to say that she is only messing with me. He should wait for me. Laxatives in his dinners from now on.”
I always got the feeling that Liam was from some high ranking family, despite the fact that he never mentioned so. From this story, it seemed unlikely that his own stepsister would be so intent at seducing him if there was not something in it for her.
