My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 61

Chapter 61

Axel’s POV

“Alpha, they have been spotted. They are wheeling a wooden box and they seem to be going towards the cargo area.”

Alpha David held the communicator so tightly that it nearly cracked. “Putting my daughter in cargo… thank you. Keep me posted about anything you see.”

Celestia’s hands crawled up to the hem of my jacket again. I shrugged her off, stepping out of her reach.

Chloe was still very upset about the banquet thing. I could risk her anger by making this even worse.

“Axel, I think I am a bit terrified,” she said, looking around her. “What if we are seen and they try to run away?”

Darius beat me to an answer, his words sharp and irritated. “The only way we would be spotted is if you keep talking at that volume.”

Celestia did not care about rescuing Sandra one bit. It had only become apparent when we were already

in the air.

She kept bringing up trivial things after another to Luna Silvia, trying to look for something she could bond with her over. Like a woman who was not sure where her daughter would care about Chinese calligraphy at that moment.

There was the part of my mind that felt that Celestia had only been trying to distract her from the grim. matter at hand but that part was a very small part.

The larger part of my mind was yelling at me that I should have brought Chloe.

She was a lot more useful on this mission, the first person to spot that Reese had a problem and the only reason we had gotten this far.

If she had not taken this situation as seriously as she did, contacting someone she had been estranged with for years, Sandra would have been shipped off to Europe in a few hours without any of us realizing

Celestia here was just distracting all of us. She kept talking and talking, nothing like the tactful, resourceful girl that I knew her to be. Perhaps she was just scared and was using this as a coping

mechanism.

“Target approaching the South area of the bay,” the leader of the tracking unit said. “Alpha, please get ready.”

Before Alpha David could give the signal, Celestia ran out, rushing towards the men with a dagger pointed in front of her. One of the men retaliated immediately and they had the time to regroup into formation before any of us could come out.

Great. She had just taken away our element of surprise.

“There is a bomb strapped to your daughter,” the one who seemed to be their leader said. “One wrong move and it would blow us all to smithereens.”

Alpha and Luna Moonflame paused, terrified as they tried to access whether the kidnappers were just bluffing. I took another whiff of the air.

Strange. Sandra’s smell was faint, almost non-existent. It was not as intense as it ought to be if she was right there.

The leader and I made eye contact and he knew that I had figured it out. Instantly, he yelled to his men.

I Open fire!”

The four of us ducked out of the way, just before the bullets rained above our heads.

How many were they? Twelve? Fourteen?

My phone buzzed in my pocket and for some reason, I pulled it out to check. It was a text from an

unknown number.

This is Chloe. There are sixteen men surrounding you all armed. The only safe route of escape is the

Northeast. Lure the hunters there.

Even when she was not here, she found a way to save my life.

“Chloe says we should go to the Northeast,” I whispered to the Alpha and Luna.

Darius looked over my shoulder. “How are you sure it’s her? You don’t even have your Luna’s phone number saved on your phone?”

We’ve never had a reason to text, I wanted to respond but did not want to banter with him. Chloe was my Luna and no amount of side comments was going to change that.

My phone buzzed with another text.

You might be wondering if this is me so I thought to confirm. Our deal is in the third drawer of your

second office desk.

The contract. Not even Tony knew where it was or knew of it.

“It’s her,” I whispered. “We need to move.”

Before we could step out another inch, the leader called out again. “She is the daughter of Clan Leader Crane, right? What do you think your father will say if he finds out that you let her be used as a hostage, young Alpha Everdeen?”

Just how much did they know about my pack?

The leader was right. As much as Crane was infuriating, he was a good leader that shared the burden of the Alpha family. I could not treat Celestia as easily disposable.

Luna Silvia grabbed my arm. “I swear to the Goddess, Axel. Do you even remember who your fiancee is? Make your choice and make it good or when all of this is over, Everdeen and I will be having a few talks.”

Her words snapped me back to the priority which was Sandra.

Celestia made her choice when she was stupid enough to throw herself into a line of fire that she was not even called for. I really should have left her at home.

After a quick countdown, the four of us jumped to our feet and started to run through the palm trees.” Northeast!” I yelled more for the hunters than for us.
