My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 67

Chapter 67

Chloe’s POV

Everyone was gathered in Alpha’s office.

Luna Diane. Mum. David. Even Hannah and Jax had been invited to the meeting. I stood with my back straight, hands flat against my thighs as I stared down Alpha Paul who sat in his chair, glaring at me.

“Explain yourself,” he said.

My head tilted. “My apologies, Alpha but if you would be a bit more specific…”

“How is Axel with you? And where is Celestia?”

He was not even bothering to hide the fact that he did not like me. Then again, it would be obvious to everyone in this room, especially him, that I did not give a shit about his approval.

“Axel and I met somehow in Moonflame. Perhaps he flew in to see me with Celestia,” I said, glancing at Axel, daring him to refute my words in the presence of everyone here. “As for Celestia, I am not quite

sure where she is.”

“Chloe, is that how you speak to your Alpha?” David interjected, his voice harsh.

I turned to him with a raised brow. “I am sorry if I have offended anyone by my words. Unfortunately, I was not allowed communication classes when I was younger so I really do not know how to handle myself in appropriate settings.”

David flinched and stepped backwards before he could dig himself into a deeper hole. Mum stayed silent beside her husband with her head down.

Her own daughter was gone for two weeks and I could not even get a welcome back smile, much less a

hug.

“Where is Celestia?” Alpha Paul finally asked the right person, his son.

Axel was the only other person in the room who was sitting besides his parents. “She offended the Moonflame Alpha family and they refused to have her on the helicopter.”

Luna Diane sat up at that one. “Celestia offended Silvia? How?”

Alpha Paul did not even wait for his son to speak before he turned his glare back to me. “Did you have something to do with this?”

I looked down meaningfully to the boxes of gifts resting on the table and then back to his face before curtseying. “I do not believe so but I am willing to admit my faults if I made any.”

“You,” Alpha Paul hissed through gritted teeth but I would like to see him point out how exactly I was infuriating him.

Over the past few weeks, I realized something. There was more than one way to get my point across and

avoid being a pushover without being dramatic and hysterical like Hannah.

Micro-expressions. Tonal manipulation. Underlying messages.

These things were very infuriating and they were less likely to get me killed or punished for disrespect to the Alpha. The person I was speaking to would know that I was being insolent or snarky but could not directly point out what exactly I said that offended them.

“Axel,” Luna Diane said, stepping in to assuage the situation. “These jewels. What exactly are they for?”

Axel looked at me once before giving his mother a somewhat accurate description of what happened over the past few days. All while leaving out Liam entirely yet he managed to make the story sound complete.

Alpha Paul’s eyes did not leave me the entire time Axel told his story, assessing, trying to figure out how to find fault in something that Axel had said.

“Did you know of the kidnapping before hand?” Alpha asked. “Your response speed is suspicious.”

“I am not a fool to put my hands on an Alpha’s daughter,” I said. “Besides, according to the story, she was taken by one of her own acquaintances who I had never met prior to an introduction the day before.”

I gestured towards Axel. “And he can confirm that myself and the kidnapper in question were never alone. I only left the house once with the heiress of Moonflame to a lecture where I met Axel and

Celestia at.”

It was almost painful to watch Alpha Paul try and fail to fault me. Eventually, he leaned back in his chair.

“Take the jewels and leave my office,” he said, sounding like he wanted the day over and done with when it was barely noon.

Hannah sucked in a sharp breath, her hands clutching Jax’s sleeve as she tried to make him say something. Jax gave her a look that clearly read, ‘Are you crazy?’

My sister gave up on her mate and turned to her father to ask for help. David did not pause for a moment to think of how shameless his request was before opening his mouth.

“Alpha, our Chloe does not have much of an experience managing money and precious materials like this. If I may be able to keep this for her until she is ready-”

“Fancy way to say that you want to poach off your daughter’s prize,” Axel replied, his face scrunched slightly like he was disgusted.

David’s eyes lit up in surprise to see Axel speaking up for me, especially so boldly in front of his father. Alpha Paul sent Axel a quick glare.

“You and Chloe are not yet married so her assets are not yours yet. It is within reason for her father, her primary guardian to ask that-”

“David is not my primary guardian. My mother is,” I said, interrupting Alpha David before he could finish

Mother flinched when I called her. Her eyes darted fearfully to David and whatever she saw made her shake her hands in front of her. “No, sweetie. You know I am not good with that kind of thing. Why don’t you give them to your father-”
