Chapter 78
Chloe’s POV
I nodded and jogged away, heading down the stairs with somewhat of a happy skip in my step.
Viktor was already waiting in front of the car and moved to open the door for me. I was about to enter when I smelled Hannah’s perfume. Her and Celestia were already walking back to the packhouse.
When Celestia saw me, her eyes darkened with malice. Hannah wore a pleased smirk on her face. It was not difficult to infer that Hannah had told Celestia something to make her this upset at me.
“Going to see one of your lovers again?” Celestia spat. Before I could say anything, she added. “Like I thought, you are not deserving of the Luna position. Who knew what backwater village you were born in with your gold- digging mother?”
What was it with all these entitled brats provoking me?
I glanced at Hannah in my peripheral vision. She was probably expecting me to snap and hit Célestia. That would definitely give them a case in front of Alpha Paul, especially when Crane would start raging.
Rather, I looked up at the open window above our heads. Axel was leaning outside the window, watching the entire interaction with clear irritation on his face.
Celestia noticed my gaze and looked up. Seeing Axel, she flinched. “A-Axel, I…”
“Chloe, when did you say you would get back?” he asked, completely ignoring her.
I smiled. “In about four hours. After the meeting, I want to do a bit of shopping. The weather is getting colder. Do you want me to get you anything?”
He shook his head and then paused. “You know what? Yeah. You pick.”
My eye twitched. Why did he change his mind? Now, I had to think of something to give him.
“Miss, we might be late if we do not leave now,” Viktor said. I climbed in the car and settled in the seat and he shut the door, going to the driver’s seat.
As he started the car, I leaned out the window. “Also, did Hannah never tell you who her mother was? If David had not been swift enough to cover the news up, no one would know she was born from some prostitute in the red- light district.”
Hannah let out an ugly sound of shock. I winked at her and signaled the car to drive off.
The information was not true. Hannah’s mother was not really a prostitute but she and David did meet each other at a werewolf club in the red-light district. David had paid her a lot of money to leave Hannah behind and disappear.
My jaw tightened. It was one thing for Hannah or even David to call my mother a gold-digger, but how dare Celestia say a word as an outsider to my family.
Even if my mother was foolish and a bit meek, she married David because she had truly loved him and not because he had money. Mum was a beautiful woman. There were far richer men who wanted to have her but she had always turned them down.
Viktor drove and parked the car in front of the small office building. My eyes widened.
When had they gotten their own lab?

The two men were standing in front in hand-me-down suits, waiting to greet me. When they saw me, they
nstantly rushed forward, escorting Viktor and I into the building.
“Many of the experiments were not safe to perform at home,” Asher explained. “So we took some of the money you gave us and put it down for rent. Having our own space really makes it easier and faster to work.”
There were only a few rooms in the building. A front lounge area. A joint office. A bedroom with a pair of bunk beds. And a small bathroom.
The rest of the space had been set aside for a large lab that was covered in writings and chemicals from floor to ceiling. I stood in the center of the lab, turning around in a circle slowly as I took in everything.
They had made this much progress in just a few months. I knew that I was right to trust them.
“Luna, we have actually perfected the first few pills in different dozes but they are long and tedious to make,” Asher said as we sat down in the lounge to talk. “We have thought about it and we need some kind of a production team.”
I nodded, frowning slightly. A factory might be the next best thing but none of us in the room had the resources or the license to open a factory that produced medicine.
We were biology majors, not pharmacists.
Killian nudged Asher. “Actually, we have been approached by someone who wants to buy our patent for good money. He said he would pay twenty million upfront,” Asher added, eyes shining at the sum. “We were thinking of
“No,” I said bluntly, shutting that idea in place.
The two men made billions off this same pill. Why would I let them sell it for twenty million?
