Chapter 81
Chloe’s POV
Axel’s words settled in the corridor. A second passed, two and then, I plucked his hand off my body and tossed it back to him. “Noted,” I said, rolling my eyes as I turned away from him.
All of a sudden, he was deciding to develop some conscience and maybe a bit of manners. But he did not need to try so hard to convince me that he and Celestia were not an item. I had eyes that worked.
When I knocked on Luna Diane’s door, she immediately replied from inside with a low hum. I opened the door wearing a warm smile on my face. “Hi, Luna. May I come in?”
Her pen froze and she looked up at me with confusion. “Of course, Chloe. Did you want to see me for something?
“It is nothing too important but I brought you a…oh, you had a guest,” I said and was about to backtrack out of the room when the woman who was sitting on the couch stood up and approached me.
“Chloe Waterson,” she said, standing too close for comfort. “I have been quite curious about the woman who was able to weasel their way into Axel’s heart and keep such a firm position.”
I smiled politely, instantly recognizing who she was.
Laeticia Crane.
Who in Everdeen would not know the woman who was supposed to be our Luna if she had not been unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you chose to look at it, usurped by our dear Luna.
“Ms Crane,” I said, curtseying slightly.
That’s right. She had never married after her betrothal to Alpha Paul was broken but she had given birth to a child in an attempt to continue the Crane family line since Celestia, the clan leader’s daughter was going to be married out of the family soon.
“You are very knowledgeable to be able to recognize me at first sight,” she said, eyes sharply narrowed.
I glanced subtly at Luna Diane but obvious enough that everyone in the room would be able to recognize that I was looking at her. “I learned from the best.”
Luna Diane’s finger twitched at my roundabout praise and then, she leaned forward on the desk. “Is there something you want, Chloe?”
“No…well, yes.” I walked to her and set down the sundae on her table.
Her brows scrunched in confusion. “What is this?”
“Axel and I were making a salad and I remembered that I bought some extra ingredients so I thought to make you something,” I said. Luna Silvia did not even take too long to crush my hopes.
“I do not have a sweet tooth,” she said, already looking back down at her paperwork. “Thank you for the thought. You may go.”
Suddenly, a thought came to mind. Why had I even thought to make the sundae for Luna Diane? It had almost come like a natural thought, like I was starting to see Luna Diane on my side when she really was on whatever side that benefited the pack.
Anyone who saw this would think I was trying to suck up to her, which was not the truth. I had really just thought about giving her a smoothie almost instinctively. I would have to watch myself from now on; this was not my

as not yet and never going to be her daughter-in-law. There was no need for shows of goodwill between us.
As I moved to pick up the smoothie, Axel’s fingers intertwined with mine. He moved me behind him as he walked closer to his mother’s desk. “Mother, are you really not going to try it at all? Chloe spent quite a bit of time making this for you.”
“I do not feel like taking sugar right now,” Luna Diane said, her voice tinted with irritation.
Axel’s head tilted and he leaned forward and sniffed the air. His mother froze, her grip temporarily tightening around her pen. “Are those sweets I smell or perhaps, are there some sweets I know that do not involve using sugar to make?”
Luna Diane’s eyes sharply narrowed. “Do I not know my own palate and what I would like to eat and not eat?”
“I am not asking you to eat a whole smoothie, Mother. I would just rather have you taste what my Luna painstakingly made for you.”
“I doubt there was any pain involved in mixing the ingredients for this.”
“You were not there, were you? I saw her do the whole thing myself.”
I pulled on Axel’s hand and he turned back to look at me, giving me a dazzling smile before returning to the standoff with his mother.
“The Young Alpha seems to care very much for you,” Laeticia said, the edge in her voice sharp enough to cut glass. How had she planned on being Luna with such lack of control of her emotions?
