My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 85

Chapter 85

Chloe’s POV

Before I could link my arms with him, he grabbed my hand, intertwining our fingers. I stared up at him with confusion a second before I smelled a familiar scent down the corridor.

I turned in time to see Alpha Paul climb up the stairs. His eyes were fixed on us like he had been tracing our movements for some time now.

“Father,” Axel said in greeting. I simply curtsied, bowing my head in front of him. His gaze sharpened, unable to hide his irritation with my presence.

Alpha Paul grunted and stomped past us, heading to his bedroom. He slammed the door so hard that it must have, rattled through the packhouse. Axel did not look fazed one bit. His arm slipped around my waist and he started to steer me down the stairs.

The little incident caused something warm to swell in my chest. Jax had always kind of treated me like a dirty little secret when it came to his parents.

I recognized back then that it was because he feared his father and really, I understood why he feared his father. Alpha Paul was very intimidating.

However, there were so many incidents where it got too much. Sometimes, all Jax needed to do was look his father in the eye and give the Alpha a response. Because of that timidity, I could always feel like Alpha Paul never really acknowledged him as the Alpha.

Jax became Alpha, simply because Alpha Paul did not have the choice of another heir after Axel died.

Seeing Axel be so bold even when his father was undeniably upset…it was…hot.

That was the only description I could think up in my head, which was surprising because Axel and the word ‘hot’ ought not to belong in the same sentence.

A small gasp from my left made me turn my head. Celestia was holding a tray, carrying a tea set, looking like she wanted to head up the stairs. My eyes moved from the dark colored cups to the cookies that I found out from her that Axel liked.

It did not take a genius to figure out where she was going.

I looked up at Axel. “Huh, Axel. You did not tell me you had tea with Celestia. I might have moved our date,” I hissed low, irritation climbing out of nowhere.

Axel’s brows furrowed and he took a step away from her, dragging me back like I could be infected for breathing the same air as her. “I do not have tea scheduled with Celestia.”

He noticed the arrangement and saw that it was according to his preferences. “Celestia, this is not for me, is it? Chloe and I have plans. You were there when we made them.”

“I just did not think…”

You were going to follow through, she wanted to say but realized how it would make her sound so she held her tongue.

Now, I could imagine the conflict happening inside her between what Hannah had told her and what she was seeing.

Axel and I did not look like a couple who could not stand each other and were faking smiles and romance. Yes, we were that exactly but more importantly, we were a team with the same goal. Even when irritated or annoyed by each other, Axel and I would stick to the plan because it was more important than whatever feelings we were experiencing.

Celestia’s hands trembled so much that I had to take the tray from her and set it down on a nearby table so that they did not fall and shatter on the ground. However, I picked up the cookies and raised them up to Axel.

“Hey, you want some?” I asked before taking a bite out of one myself. My eyes widened slightly. It was really good. Much better than I expected.

“This is really good. Did you make this, Celestia?” I said, trying to rush another bite without ruining my lipstick. Before I could put the other, Axel took it from my hand and put it inside his mouth, chewing slowly.

“It is good. It does not taste as good as your desserts, Chloe,” he said but took the plate from my hand anyway. He would probably eat them in the car so his little darling would not be sad that her food went to waste.

“Since when did Chloe bake?” Hannah said, coming up behind me. Her arms were crossed over her chest as she glared me down.

Right. I focused to learn baking after she passed away. This was during the time where Jax was barely coming home and eating so I was trying to find something that would keep his attention.

“I learned,” I replied directly, meeting her gaze head on. “Axel and Luna Diane have had my desserts and they love it.”

Luna Diane especially.

I had never seen her smile so much at me in the past few days, since I started bringing more desserts to her office every afternoon. Even today, because of the date, I had gotten up earlier to make her a small set of cupcakes and she was all smiles, though it was six in the morning.
