Chapter 87
Chloe’s POV
The moment Axel parked in front of the restaurant, he ran to the other side to open the door for me.
I let him, looking up at him through skeptical eyes. Was he whistling? I did not even know that he had the capacity for joy and smiles like I had seen recently.
When we entered the restaurant, my eyes widened. “What the heck? You brought us to an arcade?”
I had not eaten today because I thought we would be going for an early lunch. I was not going to be playing games on an empty stomach.
“It is a snack and game thing,” Axel said, rocking back and forth on his feet. “I thought it would be a bit boring if we just sat down and ate. What were we going to talk about for an hour like that?”
Fair point. I did not want him knowing more about me than he already knew now so a regular meal was going to be unbelievably quiet.
That said, I did not expect him to be so…thoughtful. This was a date that we had agreed on to make Celestia mad.
He grabbed my hand, pulling me out of my thoughts. “Come on. You have not had anything to eat, right? I am starving.”
When we stepped into the restaurant properly, I felt all eyes turn to us. I scanned the restaurant quickly, half- expecting there to be intruders but then, I noticed that all eyes were on Axel.
I followed their gaze and looked at his face. After spending so much time around Alphas of different calibers, it was easy to get used to the fact that werewolves and even more, high-ranking ones were ridiculously handsome.
They had a way to make everything look attractive so Axel, wearing a simple T-shirt and a jacket while sporting a day-old stubble and slightly combed hair, looked like he had accidentally walked off a runway.
He continued staring at the snacks table without a care in the world, no doubt feeling the eyes but so completely used to the staring that it no longer fazed him.
“I read online that they had breakfast food,” he said as we walked to the snacks table. He handed two tickets to the attendants standing by the side before starting to pile food on two plates.
He gave the smaller mountain to me before moving us to a table set off to the side. “Chloe, are you alright? You have not said anything.”
I kept my gaze pointedly down. “Everyone is staring at us,” I mumbled.
Axel lowered his head, trying to look at my face. “So what? Everyone always stares at us. We are the future leaders of our pack.”
What an oddly irritating conclusion to come to.
“Everyone always stares at you, Axel.” I said, stabbing my fork with a grape. “I spent my whole life and then some, being hidden at the back of family portraits and in the corner of ballrooms. Forgive me if I do not deal well with attention.”
Somehow, it was manageable when I had Luna mode on but these people were just humans. They wanted nothing from us, except maybe Axel’s number and the chance for a booty call but nothing serious.
It was very unnerving.

“Chloe, half the guys inside of here are staring at you,” Axel said and tilted my head up with his finger. “Maybe you have not noticed but you have undergone quite a few changes since you shifted.”
He was right. I had not noticed. I did not look any different than I looked in my past life…oh…
I was already shifted in my past life so I had already undergone the physical enhancements that I went through as a wolf…was he calling ine beautiful?
Axel smiled, brushing my hair out of my face. “You really should look in a mirror more for the sake of it. Besides, your family is not a very objective source of truth when it comes to your appearance, granted your history.”
His lips pursed for a moment as if he was considering his next words. “Take it from me. You do stand out… especially when you brush your hair back like…like that…yeah…”
By pure coincidence, I had moved both sides of my hair that was falling in front of my eyes behind my ears. His eyes momentarily shone with something and vanished, his face ducking as he returned to his meal.
