Chloe’s POV

I had known Axel to be many things but a word that I never thought I would use to describe him was over-excited. By the time we were returning home, it was very dark and somehow, he still found a way to hum happily with his fingers drumming on the steering wheel.

“I told Luna Diane that I was going to be home at six,” I whispered. It was pushing eleven pm now.

What had we even been doing for so long?

I was sure that we had tried every last game in that arcade but I did not think we would take so long and I would get so engrossed that I did not notice the passage of time.

“Don’t worry. Mum won’t mind. I called her a few hours ago to tell her that we were going to be late,” he replied

easily.

I wanted to retort and decided to drop it. There was nothing I could do about the lost time anyway. I would just have to catch up on my reading somehow.

“Did you enjoy today?” he asked. The smile on his face had dropped a little but I could not be very sure of his expression since it was dark and he was not even looking at me.

“Yeah, it was alright,” I said, my smile slipping back to my face without my meaning to. I could not remember the last time I had so much fun in one sitting.

Even since my past life. Perhaps it was back when Mum and I were living on our own when I was much younger. We would take out some weekends and hit all the amusement parks in the city and play until we dropped.

The burn I felt in my body was like what I experienced now. Spread everywhere but completely worth it.

“Goddess, I should do this more often,” I muttered to myself. Maybe visiting an amusement park solo was not the most enjoyable experience but if Sandra came in anytime soon, we could go together.

“I don’t see why not,” Axel said and then suddenly laughed. “Maybe we could try an amusement park next. I have not been to one of those places in years.”

I guess even while growing up in a stable home like the Everdeens, it was still possible that Axel did not have a childhood. Since he was offering, there was no need to turn him down.

My phone’s screen lit up and that was when I remembered that I had put it on silent before the air hockey game. I took it out and saw several missed calls, messages and emails from different people all saying the same thing.

I sat up in the reclined passenger’s seat, scrolling through with pure joy bursting inside of me.

Luna Silvia had done it. They had verified the potency of the pill and had the association issue a patent to Killian and Asher. I opened the email that the guys had sent to me with a copy of the patent. At the very bottom where it listed contributors was my name.

Chloe Waterson.

The two words made me feel like the entire trajectory of my life had changed.

Luna Silvia’s call came in and I picked up immediately. When she heard my voice, she let out a sigh of relief. “You know, I was already asking David to reach out to Everdeen to ask them what they had done to you…I just heard a car horn. Are you driving?”

“Axel is,” I replied. “We were out most of the day so I put my phone on silent.”

Amoment passed before she replied. I could hear the grin in her voice. “Fancy word for a date. How was it? Did he act like he had a stick up his ass-”

“Good evening, Luna,” Axel said as we turned the corner.

“If you are trying to shut me up by reminding me that you are here, that won’t work,” she said snarlily and softened her voice when she started to address me. “Chloe darling. Did you see what I sent you?”

“Yes, I just saw them. Thank you so much. I don’t know how I could ever repay this,” I said sincerely, my mind running to think of a way that I could repay them.

All they had asked for was to be named our primary sponsors when the pill went live for bulk purchases. Still, it was an arrangement that benefited me and the guys more than it did Moonflame.

Sure, it would increase their good name but it was not like Moonflame’s reputation was not already high up there.

“Darling, you don’t need to worry about that. David is curious though about the boys that made it so maybe, you can introduce them,” Luna Silvia said and I heard her mate yelling in the background in agreement.

“They would be honored…I wanted to ask if it would be a stretch to have Sandra come over for a bit of time-”

“I will,” Sandra chirped in and I smiled wider.

I had made the request off the top of my head as I was thinking about going to a park with a friend but to have her agree so quickly…
