Chapter 94
Axel’s POV
I opened the door of Father’s home bar and saw him drinking straight from a vodka bottle. Not that the drink could affect him because of his quick metabolism but it was still rather surprising to see him drink so quickly.
He usually only used the bar when he was entertaining guests who drank of were just simply too close to the family for him to be having them in his office.
Guests like Clan leader Crane when he comes to visit for matters unrelated to the pack.
“Are you going to come in or will you keep standing at the door like an idiot?” Father spat, his tone biting.
I was not bothered by it and simply entered and sat beside him. He passed me another bottle, not asking me if I
wanted to drink or not.
Though I hated the taste and smell of vodka, I tried to match his swigs.
We drank in silence for an entire half hour before he finally clicked his tongue. “That little brat,” he snapped and snapped his jaw so tightly that I could have heard the grinding of his teeth.
I knew he was not talking about Celestia. He was referring to Chloe. I could see why he was so upset. Chloe was very infuriating if you happened to be on the receiving end of her ire.
As for what had happened earlier today, she had essentially insulted Father and his judgment of people to his face while covering it up so expertly by saying he knew what Crane’s real intentions were.
Because she had made him look like a wise and benevolent leader, he could not outrightly punish her without seeming tyrannical or like he was picking on a teenage girl. So she had essentially boxed him into behaving the way she wanted him to behave.
He had picked a side in front of the clan leader without meaning to.
“Did you know she was like this when you asked her to mate you?”
I had never mentioned to Father that I asked Chloe. Rather, all I told him was that she had agreed to his order. But
I suppose that he knew me and people in general well enough to infer that I had been the one to ask her.
There was no need to lie. It was not like I was spilling the details of my arrangement with Chloe.
“No,” I admitted. “She has a real gift for fooling people until she needs a part of herself to shine.”
I could already see my father’s face when Chloe would reveal whatever it was that she was working with Moonflame. That would be around the same time her family would find out that they raised a genius under their roof and did not know it.
Father was a filthy opportunist. He would be terribly upset that Chloe had not come to him with her ideas while thinking of ways to utilize her skills for the pack.
I wondered how she planned to pry away from the public eye when she was ready to leave. Her excellence would certainly not make it difficult.
And there was that bastard in Moonflame who wanted her hand. Too bad for him that she kept turning him down.
“Wipe that smile off your face before I punch you,” Father spat and my head snapped up.
Because of how strict he was, I often forgot that he was in his early forties, having been my age when he had me.

Because of Alpha genes, he simply looked like a well-kept human man in his early thirties.
times like this was when I felt most that I was looking at an older brother.
“You smile when you talk about Mother,” I replied, taking a swig of my bottle.
“Your mother is my mate. That girl…I don’t even believe that trash that her sister spouted at her birthday party about being in love with you.” He tapped his finger against the counter. “Does that girl behave like someone who is in love with you?”
“Chloe never outrightly said that, you know?” I defended her, keeping my voice soft so he would not snap. “As we know now, Hannah is not above lying to make her choices look better.”
His face scrunched. “Hannah. She was supposed to be your mate. Went around the pack boasting that she would be Luna.”
I could already hear the relief in his voice without him outrightly having to express it.
I allowed myself to grin, glad that he and I were on the same page. “Aren’t you glad she did the swap? Jax does no have much…”
I trailed off, not wanting to insult my brother in front of my father and come off as spiteful. Father had no reservation whatsoever.
