The office fell into total silence.
Lucian picked up his phone and stared at Seraphina's profile picture.
It was a side profile shot of her, bathed in sunlight, looking incredibly gentle and serene.
He typed out a quick message: "The intel was verified. You were right."
After a moment of thought, he added: "What do you want for dinner? I'll come home early."
The reply was almost instantaneous.
Seraphina: "Lemon butter glazed salmon!"
Followed by an animated sticker of a cat with starry eyes.
Perhaps it was due to the pregnancy, but she had developed a serious craving for tangy, flavorful foods.
Looking at the sticker, the corners of Lucian's mouth turned up in a natural smile.
He had no idea she had such a cute, childish side to her.
But as he remembered her accurate prediction, his dark eyes deepened significantly.
Seraphina, just how many secrets are you hiding?
But it didn't matter.
No matter what secrets she held, she was still his wife.
And absolutely nothing was going to change that.
...
At the exact same time, inside The Sullivan Group.
Sebastian sat at the head of the conference table, staring down at the bidding proposal, his brow furrowed deeply.
"Have we verified the Langford Group's reserve price?" he asked.
He had his own informants embedded on their side.
"Confirmed," his assistant replied. "Our inside source at Langford reported that Lucian is determined to take The Eastside Plot. His reserve price is set at two billion dollars, and he's currently deliberating whether to push it higher."
Sebastian let out a cold scoff. "Two billion? Lucian certainly has quite an appetite."
"Mr. Sullivan, our current bid is sitting at two point one five billion dollars. That's a full one hundred and fifty million above the Langford Group's offer. That margin should be more than enough to crush them."
Sebastian pondered for a moment before suddenly asking, "What about The Riverside Parcel? Has the Langford Group made any moves on it?"
The assistant looked confused. "The Riverside Parcel? The entire industry thinks it's a dead end. Langford hasn't made a single move. Why the sudden interest in that plot, Mr. Sullivan?"
