She gripped the tablecloth so tightly her knuckles turned white.
Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine that Seraphina—the girl she had always tried to outshine—was now the wife of the CEO of The Langford Group.
And all her boasting, passive-aggressive remarks, and veiled insults from earlier... they had all become a massive joke.
What was even more laughable was that she had offered to 'arrange a position' for her.
Did the first lady of the Langford Group need a manager's wife to find her a job?
It was the most absurd thing she had ever heard.
The other classmates sat around the table, their expressions shifting as they eagerly watched the drama unfold.
A few began whispering among themselves.
"Oh my god, Sera is Mrs. Langford? As in, married to the CEO of The Langford Group?"
"No wonder Christian Chase said Mr. Langford sent the food. We all thought it was out of respect for Miranda's husband..."
"Yeah, turns out Seraphina was the VIP all along."
"I thought it was weird earlier. Why would the CEO personally know the wife of a mid-level manager? Now it all makes sense."
Miranda sat on pins and needles, wishing she could instantly vanish from the room.
She had made a complete fool of herself today.
Sitting next to Seraphina, Tiffany was in a fantastic mood.
She had finally vented her long-held frustration.
She picked up her wine glass, took a delightful sip, and deliberately remarked, "Sera, you said your husband ran a small business. We completely misunderstood."
Seraphina gave her a helpless look, knowing full well she was doing this on purpose.
Arthur's face flushed red, then turned pale.
If Lucian's empire was considered a small business, then there were no big businesses in the world.
