The following afternoon, Brody arrived at the location Frank and Q had agreed upon.
It was a discreet, high-end teahouse located right on the edge of the Southside District. Frank's choice.
When Brody walked in, Frank was already seated.
Brody took the seat across from him, maintaining a rigid silence.
Frank casually poured a cup of premium tea and pushed it across the table.
Brody ignored the drink, his eyes locked onto Frank. "What does Mr. Langford want?"
Frank's tone was even and completely unhurried. "Mr. Langford understands that you've been running the Southside for years. Keeping a dozen guys on payroll isn't easy. But we've also dug up quite a bit of dirt on your operations. If certain... files... were to be exposed..."
Frank intentionally trailed off, but Brody knew exactly what the implied threat meant.
Brody remained tight-lipped. In his line of work, he knew that the moment you left a trail, it was only a matter of time before someone found it.
But Frank's next words caught him completely off guard.
"There's a manufacturing plant over in the Southside that needs a new manager."
Brody stared hard into Frank's eyes.
He had never expected Lucian to throw him a lifeline. The billionaire didn't want to destroy him; he wanted to put him on a leash.
"A gift like that doesn't come free," Brody noted warily. "What's the catch?"
Frank held up a single finger. "Just one condition. From now on, whenever Zelda reaches out to you, Mr. Langford wants to know about it."
Brody instantly understood the play.
Lucian wasn't asking him to eliminate Zelda; he was turning him into a mole to monitor her every move.
Brody stayed quiet for a long moment before finally picking up the teacup and taking a sip.
"I'll take the factory job."
He stood up, towering over the table as he looked down at Frank. "Tell Mr. Langford I take full responsibility for my past mistakes. As for the future... tell him to watch me perform."
Frank offered a curt nod of approval.
Brody turned and walked out.
It wasn't as if the thought of rejecting the offer hadn't crossed his mind.
But what would happen if he said no? The blackmail material Frank had on him was more than enough to lock him away for years.
And he had absolutely no intention of spending the rest of his life rotting in a cell.
