Lawrence didn't answer, but a calculating glint appeared in his eyes.
After a moment, he murmured, "There's no rush. Let's wait and see how things play out."
Out in the garden.
Eleanor Langford leaned on her walking stick with one hand while gently holding Seraphina Simmons' arm with the other. They strolled leisurely, admiring the vibrant flora.
The hydrangeas were in full bloom, clustered together in breathtaking shades of blue, purple, and pink.
"Sera," Eleanor suddenly spoke up.
"Yes, Eleanor?"
"Don't take what they said earlier to heart," the older woman said, her tone dead serious. "Lawrence and his wife have absolutely no filter. They are narrow-minded, sharp-tongued, and always looking for a way to exploit someone."
Seraphina offered a soft smile. "I didn't let it bother me."
"Good," Eleanor patted her hand warmly. "Always remember, you are the lady of the Langford family, and you are carrying my great-grandson. If anyone ever dares to give you an ounce of attitude, you tell me. I'll put them right in their place."
Her words were fiercely protective and full of love.
A wave of warmth washed over Seraphina, and her eyes grew slightly misty. "Thank you."
"What are you thanking me for?" Eleanor gave her a playful, scolding look. "We're family. There's no need for that."
Just then, Lucian approached from behind.
"Grandma," he greeted, seamlessly slipping to Seraphina's other side and gently supporting her arm.
Watching the two of them, the corners of Eleanor's lips curled into a deep smile.
"Lucian," she said.
"Yes?"
"Treat Sera well. Don't ever let her down."
