Back in the hospital room, Eleanor stayed for another half hour before Lucian firmly suggested she leave.
"Grandma Eleanor, it's getting late. You should go home and rest. Seraphina and the baby will be discharged very soon."
Even though they were in an ultra-luxurious VIP suite, it was still a hospital environment, and prolonged exposure wasn't ideal.
Eleanor finally relented.
Before stepping out, she gripped Seraphina's hand, offering her endless maternal instructions.
"Seraphina, you just focus on resting. Don't worry about a single thing. I have all of Hudson's necessities ready at the estate. If you need anything else, you just tell me."
"I will. Thank you, Grandma Eleanor," Seraphina replied with a warm smile.
Satisfied, Eleanor gripped her cane and marched out with commanding energy.
The room returned to a serene quiet.
Seraphina leaned against her pillows, gazing at her newborn, still feeling as if she were trapped in a beautiful dream.
Lucian walked back in after escorting Eleanor to the elevators. Seeing Seraphina lost in thought, he approached the bed. "What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing, really." Seraphina shook her head softly before speaking again. "Lucian."
"Yes?"
"Thank you."
Lucian looked at her, his eyes brimming with quiet tenderness.
"For what?"
"For protecting me so perfectly."
Lucian didn't offer a verbal response. Instead, he leaned down and pressed a long, reverent kiss to her forehead.
Some things didn't require words.
As long as she understood, that was enough.
The undercurrents of the Langford family were treacherously deep, and he refused to let Seraphina be dragged into the darkness.
Later that evening, a nurse arrived to perform a routine checkup on Hudson.
As she lifted the tiny baby, his little face scrunched up into a wrinkled ball, clearly displeased by the sudden handling.
Sitting up in bed, Seraphina watched the nurse expertly weigh him and take his temperature, a mixture of nerves and anticipation knotting her stomach.
