"Alright, fine. Have your laugh."
As the crowd thinned out entirely, Landon and Howard were the very last to depart.
Howard paused at the door to bid Eleanor a formal farewell before shaking hands with Lucian.
"Lucian, come by the house for a drink when you have the time."
Lucian nodded. "I will."
Howard gave him a deeply meaningful look before turning and stepping into his waiting car.
Landon walked behind him, but as he passed Seraphina, he stopped and glanced down at the baby in her arms.
"My nephew is getting cuter by the day. He looks just like you, Sera," Landon said with a polite smile.
Seraphina gave a stiff, courteous nod. "Thank you."
Landon's gaze lingered on Little Bean for a fraction of a second too long before he turned and walked away.
Little Bean felt a sharp spike of discomfort under that stare. His little mouth formed a deep pout as he mentally cursed, *What are you looking at? Haven't you seen a handsome guy before? Those gloomy eyes are definitely up to no good.*
*Hmph!*
He absolutely had to warn his dad to watch out for this venomous snake.
Sensing the sudden tension radiating from the baby, Seraphina gently rubbed his back.
"It's okay, Mommy's here," she whispered reassuringly.
...
By the time they returned to Lyra Bay, it was already four in the afternoon.
Seraphina handed Little Bean over to Susan, went upstairs to take a hot shower, and changed into comfortable loungewear, finally allowing her body to fully relax.
Lucian, however, headed straight into his study the moment they arrived.
Christian Chase had just sent over an encrypted intelligence report regarding Landon.
Two soft knocks echoed against the study door.
"Come in."
Seraphina walked in carrying a fresh cup of coffee and placed it on his desk. "Still working?"
