Just then, Alistair Fletcher's phone buzzed on the desk. It was a message from his CFO.
"Mr. Fletcher, we need eight million dollars for next month's payroll and R&D. We currently have less than three million left in the accounts."
Alistair stared at the message and let out a heavy sigh.
Money was exactly what Paradox Logic lacked the most right now.
No matter how advanced their technology was or how valuable their patents were, without a capital injection, it was all just a castle in the air.
He picked up his phone, scrolled to Lucian Langford's number, and hesitated for a few seconds.
Then he backed out and scrolled to Landon Langford's number.
He hesitated again.
It was a genuinely difficult choice.
They each had their pros and cons.
Now, he needed to weigh the risks and rewards.
Alistair stood up and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking down at the young professionals bustling about in The Innovation District below.
Those young faces all had a bright spark in their eyes.
They believed in Paradox, they believed in the dream he had sold them, and they believed this company could truly change things.
He couldn't let these people down.
Taking a deep breath, Alistair made his decision.
First, he sent a text to Landon. "Mr. Langford, I appreciate your interest, but after careful consideration, I've decided to accept the Langford Group's proposal. I hope we have the opportunity to collaborate in the future."
After hitting send, he dialed Lucian's number.
"Mr. Langford, I accept your terms."
There was a second of silence on the other end of the line before Lucian's steady voice came through. "Mr. Fletcher, you won't regret this decision."
"I hope not." Alistair offered a bitter smile. "When do we sign the contracts?"
"Tomorrow morning. I'll have the legal team head over."
"Alright."
The call ended, and Alistair exhaled a long, heavy breath.
This acquisition war was finally settled.
