My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 373

Lucian bounded up the stairs and strode straight into the bedroom.

A young woman with long, messy hair was lying listlessly beneath the heavy duvet.

Evie's cheeks were flushed with an unnatural heat, her lips cracked and dry, looking incredibly fragile.

He immediately hurried to the edge of the bed.

Hearing his heavy footsteps, she slowly fluttered her eyes open and rasped, "Lucian... you came..."

Her throat was completely raw, and the sheer effort of speaking triggered a violent coughing fit.

"Water, get her some water," he ordered.

Melody had just stepped forward with a glass in hand. As he turned, she conveniently fumbled, letting the glass slip.

The cold liquid splashed directly onto Lucian's shirt.

"Oh! I'm... I'm so sorry!"

She frantically reached out, attempting to dab at the soaked fabric plastered against his chest.

He stepped back sharply, his brows pulling into a deep frown. "Don't touch me. I'll handle it."

Melody froze, lowering her head to stare at her shoes like a reprimanded child.

But hidden within the shadows of the room, her lips curled into a triumphant smirk.

Ignoring his clinging, wet clothes, Lucian focused entirely on coercing Evie to swallow her pills with a few sips of water.

Melody drifted closer, staring longingly at his sharp profile. "Thank God you made it. I was at my wit's end with her."

"She absolutely refused to take anything until you walked through that door."

He merely grunted in response. His gaze remained locked on his sister, swallowing the harsh lecture he desperately wanted to give her.

The medication quickly took effect, pulling Evie into a deep, feverish slumber.

He checked her temperature a few moments later and found it had finally broken.

Letting out a long breath, he stood up.

Melody closed the distance again, gesturing toward his chest. "Your shirt is soaked through, Lucian. You're going to catch a cold yourself. You should change."

"I have some oversized t-shirts here you can borrow while I throw yours in the dryer."

"I'm fine," he rejected her offer without a second thought.
