Melody carefully tested the waters, but he cut her off before she could finish. "I'm slammed today. If there's no actual emergency, I'm staying here."
Without waiting for a response, he ended the call.
Back at the estate, Melody handed the device back to Evie. "I'm sorry, sweetie. I did everything I could, but he's completely brainwashed by that woman..."
Snatching the phone away, Evie scoffed bitterly. "Not for long! Mark my words, I'm going to ruin her and get my brother back!"
...
Upstairs, Seraphina carried Little Bean into the guest bedroom. Tiffany was already awake, and the moment she saw the baby, she lunged forward. "Good morning, my gorgeous godson!"
Mommy, help! Godmother is trying to eat me! the infant panicked telepathically.
Tiffany ruthlessly plucked him from his mother's arms.
Sorry, kid, you're on your own, Seraphina thought back with a wry smile.
Tiffany proceeded to aggressively kiss the baby's chubby cheeks until he squeaked in protest.
Catching her breath, she looked up. "So, did the husband ever show his face?"
"Yeah," Seraphina replied, crossing her arms. "Rolled in around 3:00 AM."
"And? Notice anything... suspicious?" Tiffany whispered, leaning in conspiratorially.
She took her son back, her mind flashing to the oversized men's t-shirt she had found balled up in the bathroom hamper that morning.
It certainly didn't belong to her, and it was a cheap brand Lucian would never be caught dead wearing.
But she had seen something identical before—prominently featured in one of Melody Monroe's old vacation posts.
As for the selfie Melody posted last night, it had miraculously vanished by daybreak.
Unfortunately for her, Seraphina had snap-shotted the screen the second she saw it.
"No," she lied smoothly.
Tiffany's brows knit together. She leaned aggressively close, taking a dramatic sniff of the air around her friend.
Something was wildly off.
"You're hiding something. Spill it."
"I'm not hiding anything."
"I'm serious." Tiffany sat back, looking deeply concerned. "We've been through hell together. If you're in trouble, you have to tell me."
