A few moments later, the roar of an engine echoed from the driveway.
Seraphina peeked through the blinds of the guest room just in time to see his sleek black SUV tearing out of the gates.
Across the room, Tiffany was staring intensely at her phone screen.
"Sera..." she started, biting her lip in clear distress over whatever she was reading.
"Yeah?"
Seraphina turned away from the window. "What's wrong?"
Meeting her friend's calm gaze, Tiffany's heart ached violently.
If she showed her the dirt she just dug up, it was going to break her.
But withholding the truth felt like a massive betrayal.
Mommy, Little Bean mentally reported, Godmother is freaking out over here. She's definitely hiding something juicy.
Seraphina smoothly crossed the room and practically shoved the baby into her arms. "Hold him for a sec."
Instinctively catching the infant, Tiffany set her phone down on the mattress.
Before she could even blink, Seraphina snatched the device up.
She tapped the screen, punched in the passcode, and unlocked it instantly.
"Hey!" Tiffany yelped. "How the hell do you know my passcode?"
Seraphina casually scrolled through the private investigator's report without looking up. "We've been friends for years, Tiff. You use the same pin for everything."
"Including your debit card, by the way."
Tiffany laughed nervously. She had the memory of a goldfish and figured using one universal code was just good time management.
"Okay, note to self: change all my passwords today before you rob me blind."
Tossing the phone back onto the bed, Seraphina smirked. "Please. If I wanted to drain your accounts, I would've done it five years ago."
Tiffany ignored the phone, staring at her in sheer bewilderment. "Sera, you..."
"What? Is my hair messed up?"
