He answered with such candid honesty that Seraphina didn't know how to respond.
Lucian gazed at her. "But she's your friend."
Warmth bloomed in Seraphina's chest. Just as she was about to speak, the car turned out of the alleyway.
A man stepped out from the shadows near the bar's back entrance.
He held an unlit cigarette, his eyes tracking the departing car.
If Seraphina had been there, she would have instantly recognized him as Sebastian Sullivan.
A friend stood beside him.
"Sebastian, you saw everything today, right? I'd say that was pretty satisfying," the man remarked.
"Seraphina thinks she's untouchable just because she married Lucian. She didn't take you seriously, went against the Sullivan Group, and caused you so much trouble."
"And now her husband is crippled, and she has to resort to visiting male hosts at The Nocturne Lounge..."
"Shut up!" Sebastian suddenly snapped, slamming his fist into the wall. His expression was so dark it was practically predatory.
The man flinched in terror and instantly clamped his mouth shut.
He glanced at Sebastian's bleeding knuckles and remained utterly silent.
"From now on, Seraphina's business is none of your concern," Sebastian ground out coldly, every word forced from the depths of his throat.
The man offered an awkward laugh. It wasn't like he could interfere even if he wanted to.
Sebastian pulled his phone from his pocket.
He found Seraphina's name in his contacts, typed a few words, and deleted them repeatedly.
Finally, he exited the messaging app and shoved the phone back into his pocket.
Without a backward glance, he walked away.
"Sebastian, aren't you going back inside?"
Sebastian didn't look back, only waving a dismissive hand as he disappeared down the street.
As Tiffany headed back into the bar, she caught sight of Sebastian in the distance from the corner of her eye. She stopped dead in her tracks, whipping her head around to look.
It really was him!
"Sebastian Sullivan? What is he doing here?"
