The car pulled into Lyra Bay and stopped in front of the grandest, most luxurious mansion on the estate.
The doors opened automatically.
Lucian stepped out, standing by the open car door, looking at Seraphina.
"Get out."
Seraphina held onto the door frame as she stepped out, her legs still feeling a bit weak.
She looked up at the mansion. Its sheer opulence was beyond her wildest imagination. It certainly lived up to the home of Capital City's wealthiest man!
A middle-aged woman walked out of the villa. She was dressed impeccably and had a warm, welcoming face.
"Sir."
"Mm." Lucian nodded toward Seraphina. "This is Ms. Simmons. She'll be staying here for a while. Make the arrangements."
The woman looked slightly surprised but quickly recovered her professional demeanor. "Right away, sir."
Seraphina offered her a polite nod. "Sorry for the trouble."
"No trouble at all, Ms. Simmons. Just call me Susan," Susan said with a warm smile. "Right this way, please."
Seraphina followed Susan inside. After taking a few steps, she suddenly stopped.
She turned around.
"Mr. Langford, about tonight... thank you."
Lucian didn't say anything; he just gave a curt nod.
Seraphina turned and headed upstairs.
Little Bean's voice chimed in again, this time thick with sleep:
"Mommy, I'm so tired... I talked way too much today..."
"Goodnight, Mommy. Goodnight, Daddy."
"See you tomorrow."
Seraphina paused on the stairs.
She placed her hand on her stomach and whispered in her heart: Goodnight, baby.
Downstairs, Lucian stood alone, watching the door close behind her.
The memory of that night three months ago suddenly flashed through his mind—
In the pitch black, the woman had melted against him like water, her arms wrapping around his neck, her lips brushing against his Adam's apple.
She had cried, her voice soft and hoarse as she told him it hurt.
He had stopped.
The next morning, Seraphina was woken up by the sunlight streaming into her room.
She opened her eyes, stared at the unfamiliar ceiling, and felt disoriented for a moment.
Then, the memories of last night rushed back like a tidal wave.
The wedding, canceling the marriage, Lucian.
And... the baby in her womb.
Seraphina instinctively touched her stomach. It was still perfectly flat; she couldn't feel a thing.
But she knew a tiny life was in there, quietly growing.
A very talkative one, at that.
Thinking of this, she couldn't help but smile.
"Mommy, are you awake?"
Little Bean's voice chimed in right on time, sounding fully energized and satisfied. "Good morning, good morning! Mommy is in such a good mood today!"
Seraphina replied in her mind: Yes, good morning.
"Mommy, guess what? I was secretly spying on Daddy last night!" Little Bean whispered conspiratorially. "He was in his study making phone calls. He seemed to be looking into something."
