Blackbolt High had been my school for two years and now I had to let it go. It wasn’t so easy to do, which was why I hadn’t yet left even when I hadn’t found the person I was looking for.

I finally stepped into the hallway and stopped in my tracks at the sight of Murphy cleaning the floor. He had become the janitor. Was that how Warrick had decided to punish him?

I stood in the way as he cleaned up and he raised his head, his expression and tone meaner than ever.

“Are you blind? Get out of the way!”

I blinked a few times, getting out of the way so he could continu. It wouldn’t even have made him nicer if he knew it was me. In fact, that would have only infuriated him to see me there

Ruby chuckled as she walked in from the other side with her crew. Murphy had been punished that way while she was still allowed to even be part of this school. I could see it from the onlookers that they felt the same way, but there was nothing anyone could do about it.

As she walked right past him, she dropped some shredded piece of paper on purpose, knowing fully well there was nothing he could do about it.

much time there and decided to leave so I could continue my search, the next stop being the apartment that

Max once took me to.

Before I could leave the school, my phone rang and I closed my eyes, hoping it was Max as I took it out.

I sighed with disappointment when I finally looked at the caller ID. It was just Gina.

I hadn’t spoken to her for at least two weeks. She had made efforts to reach out to me and I thought it was time I finally spoke to her.

“Hello?” I said.

“Wow, I didn’t think you would actually pick up.” She laughed nervously. “What’s up?”

“You’re not about to call me and act like we are on good terms. What do

you want?”

“Damn, being so blunt, huh? I’ve actually wanted to do this for awhile, I just wanted to say that I’m the one who told Ruby about you.”

I tightened the grip on my phone. “Why did you deny it the first time I asked you?”

“I was just scared, but the truth is that I haven’t been at peace and I hate how we’ve grown apart because of what I did. I only told her because she pressured me to give her something she could use against you or she would ruin my family.”

“The Lycan King now knows about my abilities and almost munered my family.”

She gasped. “I’m so sorry. This is all my fault. I told Ruby and sh told him.”

“It wasn’t Ruby. It was Jess.”

“Oh…really?”

“Yes, she’s the one who did this to me, but it still means a lot that you decided to open up.”

“So…are we cool?”

I smiled a little. “I’ll think about it.”

“Where are you?”

“I can’t tell you that.”

“You know what? There was a time when I used to push for you to tell me your secrets but not anymore. I’m not saying that something like that will happen again but I’d rather not know anything that could get you in trouble.”

“You figured out that part quickly. I see you’re still smart.”

She chuckled. “Shut up.”

I was about to hang up on her, but we hadn’t spoken in a while and she had so much to say.

She had already forgotten that I told her I would think about being cool with our friendship. I let her have her moment anyway, still glad that she told me the truth.

When the call finally came to an end, I smiled as I looked at her faller ID.

There was so much that I wished I could tell her but this was for the best. It still brought me some comfort that I could talk to a friend after a long time.

When I finally decided to leave the school, I began to make my way towards the gate but suddenly stopped in my when I sensed Max.

“You’re here,” I said using the mind link.

“Of course I am. I know you’re trying to find my exact location but don’t. That will only make things obvious to the guards I’m with.”

I couldn’t hide it, I was so excited to finally hear from him and having him so close made me want to

closer.

Composing myself, I began to look around until I spotted him at a distance with his guards behind him, outside the school.

I only took a glance and looked away, pressing my lips together so I could hide my smile.”

“Even in that form, you still look so gorgeous,” he said.

“What?”

“Don’t act so surprised. I know it’s you. I can feel you.”

I stole another glance at him, trying to maintain my poker face.

“There’s so much that I need to tell you. I just need to get rid of hese guards.”

“Me too. So much has happened since the last time we spoke.”

“I know a place where we can go and it’ll just be the two of us, away from everyone. We can finally be alone.”
