Chapter 69
Addison
I opened my eyes to the familiar ceiling of my bedroom in Red Valley, the scents of my entire family close-by.

As soon as I sat up and looked around, it was a mix of blank expressions and head shakes. Not one person was relieved that I was finally awake.
My mother was in a change of clothes, the image of a hand being shoved into her chest still fresh in my mind.
Right next to her was my father, who didn’t even want to raise h head to look at me.
The only one who’s expression softened for a split second was Ant Nora.
I could only remember part of what had happened at the palace but before I could even ask how exactly I ended up there, Cole stepped forward, his arms crossed with a clenched jaw.
“You’re awake. Good. You have a lot of explaining to do. How do you feel? Actually, it doesn’t matter. You first need to tell us how this happened.”
“How could you do this to us?” Dylan chimed in, gritting his teeth. “You hid something so important yet we discussed it as a family?”
I sat up slowly, groaning at the sudden sharp pain in my head. I hissed, everyone rushing to me with concern.
My eyes widened a little as they froze, then composed themselves. They were concerned about me but just wouldn’t show
The feeling of betrayal was much stronger.
“Look, I’m sorry I didn’t tell any of you what my final decision was. One of the reasons was that I knew that you would be against it, especially you, dad.”
“You’re right about that,” he said.
“See what I mean?” I looked all around.
“I’m against this even more after what happened with Warrick. He was about to end us all.”
“Good thing Addison came to the rescue before Max came to hers.” Lyra suddenly appeared.
I was the only one who didn’t lash out at her, everyone else pointing out that things shouldn’t have gotten that far.
“I knew what I was doing by letting it play out the way it did. Ma was more than capable of handling the situation. I just wish I had known about Jess and Davina. Still, we’re untouchable”
“How could you be so confident when my Addie is now in dange?” Aunt Nora frowned.
Lyra smirked. “No danger will ever come to her for as long as I’m around. Before any of you brings up the incident at the palace, like I said, I knew what I was doing.”
“You know what I still don’t understand? How did you all end up at the palace?” I asked.
They all looked at each other, leaving it up to my father to explan. Davina had opened a portal to Red Valley, casting a spell to immobilize them all and bringing them to the palace.
“Here’s what I don’t understand. Why was Aunt Nora an exception?” I furrowed my eyebrows.

We all looked at her and her eyes grew wide. “You’re making it look like I’m supposed to know the answer. This isn’t even about me. What now for Addie?”
My father stepped forward, his head high and voice authoritative. “From now on, no school, no friends and no Max.”
“What?” My family said in unison.
He was only looking out for me, but that was the wrong way to do it. I still needed Max and more than ever since I hadn’t even attempted my first shift. After how he had been the only one to calm me down when I lost control, it was more obvious that he needed to be by my side, but not even saying all that could change my father’s mind.
“Who knows when Warrick will show up here and get rid of us? And before you all say I’m scared, I’m not. I’m just trying to see the bigger picture here.”
“It’s just like I told you,” Lyra began, her tone confident. ” No harm will come to any of you for as long as I’m here. Actually, I’ll make it possible that even when I’m not around, no harm will come to you wherever you go.”
“Wherever we go?” Cole scoffed. “What makes you think that well be able to go anywhere after what happened?”
“Do you trust me?” She smirked, crossing her arms.
What was she up to?
I should have known that Lyra would bring in Madge to help keep my family safe from harm. Her mother was able to cast spells that could have us hiding in plain sight. I was certain it would work since that was how I first met Madge.
It had been two weeks since I had heard from Max and I didn’t even dare to reach out to him first. I didn’t know if it was safe
or not.
I was reminded of what his own parents had done to him and Tyler and it was clear that they would do it again if the situation required it.
Saga was at peace and I felt no unease from my connection with him. That alone told me that no harm had come to him.
My parents forbade me from going after him, but I still needed to know what was going on.
I had been in Red Valley with everyone, including Aunt Nora, but it was time for me to take action and it was the one thing Lyra had been waiting for. I only left a note for my family to explain myself, then made it back to Pike Hill while in disguise
as another.
Max was the only one who could sense my wolf but no matter how much I tried,. I just couldn’t reach or sense him. He wasn’t there and neither was Tyler.
I was already in the kingdom and thought I could at least see Jess and ask her but when I spotted her, I changed my mind. I told myself she wouldn’t expose my real identity because I was the one who could heal her, but I also didn’t know who was close and working for the Lycan King. I needed to be careful wit who I spoke to.
Even after how much time had passed, I couldn’t stop thinking about how she spoke to Warrick. It must have been before I told her what I could do for her. I should have known that was what she meant when she told me she would do something
worse.
With Lyra’s help, I arrived in Raven Mist in only a few seconds. made my way down the street and spotted so many familiar faces but not one person knew who I was.
I went as far as Blackbolt High with everyone just walking past like I was a random person. It was for this reason that they openly talked about me and how I was banned from the competition. I was surprised that it was still a topic. One person even mentioned how it just wasn’t fair that I was banned or no valid reason,

It then became clear to me that Warrick still hadn’t yet made the reason I was banned public and it was only for his personal
gain. Why did it feel like everything was back to normal when it learly wasn’t?
