Chapter 72: Under A Spell
Chapter 72: Under A Spell
Max
My return to the palace was only the following day and had the situation been different, I wouldn’t have gone back there, but I had no other choice as I couldn’t go against my father’s orders after what had been done to
I swung the door to my bedroom open and slammed it as soon as I was inside, taking out the small box from my back pocket and slamming it on the table. I paced as I looked down at it, hating myself for what I had done to Addison.
It had crossed my mind so many times to burn that box or throw it far away, but I just couldn’t do it.
I could hear Tyler in his room, so I went over there and barged in. He should’ve been mad at me for doing that, but he couldn’t.
“Judging by the look on your face, you did it.” He held his breath, like he didn’t want to know the answer.
It took me a moment to respond as I watched him finish dressing up. Jess was on the way and he wanted to impress her.
“I see you just came back. You still smell like Addison.” He looked at me with so much pity that I hated it.
“Don’t look at me like that,” I said, trying to stay calm as I walked past him just so I could face the wall.
“Are you okay?” he asked from behind me.
“How can I be okay after what I’ve just done? My moment with Addison should’ve been special because we marked each other, but I betrayed her and she doesn’t even know it.” I sharply turned around to face him, my eyes glowing for a second. “I did it and against my will.”
“Whoa! Relax, okay?” He held up the palms of his hands like that would make me feel better. “It’s been two weeks but I remember it like it was yesterday. It’s probably because I was disgusted at the sight of you drinking that water mixed with our father’s fur.”
“Do you seriously have to remind me right now?” I shot him a glare, that day coming back to me.
Two weeks ago, on the day my father had Addison’s entire family at the palace and found out that she and I had already bonded, he’d made his orders very clear to me. I tried to say no, but he was the lycan king and his word was final. Just to make sure I didn’t go against him, he used Davina. She cast a spell on me after making me drink that water mixed with my father’s fur. I couldn’t wait for the task to be complete so I could be set free again.
I wondered how Addison would feel the day she was going to find out. I hated doing that to her, but I just couldn’t stop myself. Just as I was thinking about coming clean, Tyler snapped me back into that moment when he said his next words using the mind link.
“Hey, hasn’t it ever bothered you that on the day Addison and her family were here at the palace and everything went crazy, Davina wasn’t around to help?”
My eyes narrowed at the thought of that. “You’re right, but our father didn’t question her when she showed up right after he told me what I was supposed to do. He must’ve known something we didn’t. You know he’s always up to something. We underestimated him before and now, look at what he’s making me do.”
“So…where is it?”
“In a box that’s in my bedroom.”
“Can I see it?”
“No.” I thought about what was inside that box and it made me want to punch the wall. “Fuck!”
“I really wish I could help, like get rid of that box for you.”
“You already know how that ends. If you try to get in my way, I’m supposed to kill you.”
He scoffed. “Yup…and here I was, thinking that there was a positive change in our father because he didn’t rip

Murphy’s head off. He’ll never change for the better and…”
He trailed off, closing his eyes and breathing in with a smirk. Despite what I was going through because of my father, it was amusing to see his reaction to Jess approaching the palace.
He rushed to finish dressing up and the two of us headed outside.
We were on our way to the front yard when we walked past our parents, who were in the long hallway along with Beta Farris. None of them said a single word, but they seemed to be deep in discussion. Was it something to do with Addison and her family?
Just as I looked away, my father’s voice echoed in my mind.
“I can smell Addison all over you. I see you marked each other. You better have what I’m expecting.”
I shut my eyes with frustration. “Yes, I have it.”
“Excellent.”
I already couldn’t stand talking to him about it, but when I looked ahead and my eyes landed on Jess, my blood began to boil. I hadn’t seen her face to face since Addison and her family had gotten in trouble.
Tyler asked me to be nice as he could already sense my rage, but I promised him nothing.
“Hey.” She smiled at both of us when she was close enough.
Tyler was the only one to respond with enthusiasm, making her smile fade.
“First of all,” she said, her eyes on me. “I just want to apologize for what I did. I really feel awful. It’s just like I said to Tyler, this was before Addiosn told me she could heal me. I wouldn’t have put her in any kind of danger had I known sooner.”
I clenched my jaw. “Yet here you are, clinging to the hope that our parents will acknowledge you because of how you helped expose Addison.”
She smacked her lips with her head low, but I still had so much to say.
It was only because my father called out to me again that I held back, turning around and heading to the stairs, where my parents now were. I caught sight of Beta Farris just as he excused himself and couldn’t stop staring at him as he kept glancing at me. What were they up to now?
“Do you have it with you right now?” my father asked.
“No. It’s in my bedroom.”
“Hand it over right after this.”
I sighed in defeat, already aware that I had to finish the task.
“You’re my son and this is what I expect.” His sinister chuckle echoed in my mind. “Thanks to you and Davina, Addison and her family will no longer be able to hide from me.”
