Hearing no response from the other end, Ternence asked impatiently, “Quennel, what did I just say? Are you deaf or mute?”
“Dad, I’m sorry about what happened today. I didn’t expect it to have such a huge impact.”
Quennel’s apology sounded sincere enough. “But don’t worry, I’ll let my results speak for themselves.”
Quennel had managed to establish himself at Meridian Consortium through his own efforts, proving he was no slouch.
Now that he had moved to Verdant Grove Capital, he knew that only impressive financial reports and KPIs would earn him everyone's respect.
His tone was firm. “As for my personal life… since you were the one who arranged my engagement to Stephanie in the first place, I’d appreciate it if you stayed out of it now.”
Ternence was shocked. He never expected Quennel to speak to him like that.
“I have to go,” Quennel said, ending the call.
Ternence stared at the disconnected call, a look of helplessness on his face.
But he was also surprised by Stephanie’s actions.
The two children had grown up together, but it seemed she was determined not to look back.
Sigh, what a tangled mess.
Meanwhile, Quennel rushed outside the venue, but the person he was looking for was long gone. There was no trace of Stephanie anywhere.
Quennel’s brow furrowed deeply.
Jonathan was far too calculating.
He must have seen Stephanie in the audience the whole time.
And he had dragged her into his act, playing the part of the deeply devoted husband and wife.
Absolutely despicable.
…
In the car.
Stephanie found it odd. “When did you see me in the audience?”
She had been trying to be discreet and hadn’t even told Jonathan she was coming.
When Jonathan announced on stage that he was coming down to find her, Stephanie had been caught completely off guard. For a moment, her heart felt like it was going to leap out of her chest, pounding harder than it ever did during her college entrance exams.
Jonathan suddenly produced an exquisite box.
Stephanie froze, instantly recognizing the distinctive Lumiere logo on it.
“What’s this?” she asked, puzzled.
“Open it and see.”
Had Lumiere released a new collection recently?
She hadn't heard anything about it from Hubery, and they had just spoken that morning.
Stephanie was curious, but she opened the box anyway.
At that exact moment, a ray of sunlight streamed through the car window.
The diamond ring inside caught the light, scattering brilliant, multicolored sparkles that were almost blinding.
Its color and quality were both superb. Stephanie had never seen such a large diamond ring before.
“Is this… for me?” she asked in astonishment.
