Noelle watched Cedric, who was born with a silver spoon.
Beside her, Donovan felt his mind go blank as he turned to the event planner. "What did you just say?"
Did he really just call Cedric the heir of the Greene family?
Xenia was in disbelief. "He said Cedric is the heir of the Greene family. They do share the same last name."
But how was that possible? Wasn't Cedric just a broke doctor? How could he be the heir of the Greene family? And how could he possibly be interested in Noelle?
Wyatt also found it hard to believe. "There are plenty of people with the last name Greene. They can't all be heirs to the Greene family, right?"
Xenia swallowed nervously. But why did the mayor treat Cedric with such respect? Something wasn't right!
Noelle laughed and stepped toward Cedric. "I also found it hard to believe at first."
He was born into privilege, yet he chose to work as a school doctor. Donovan stumbled back. "No! That's impossible!"
Wyatt nodded. "Exactly! He's probably just pretending to be someone important!"
Xenia turned to Salena for confirmation. "But Mrs. Cantrell must know the real heir of the Greene family! She can expose the lie!"
Donovan also demanded, "Who is this man?"
Salena's expression was full of disdain. "Didn't you just hear it yourself?"
She looked at Donovan with disappointment. "The Cantrell family has been hosting banquets for so long, and yet you've never caught wind of anything?
"I must've been blind to ever think you wouldn't let me down. Turns out, you're just a worthless, freeloading idiot."
"I only found out recently. You might have known earlier if you hadn't passed out at the Cantrell banquet." Noelle shrugged.
Fury flared in Donovan's eyes, and he stormed toward Noelle. "Do you think it's funny to make a fool out of me?"
Noelle met his bloodshot gaze and smirked. "To be honest? Yes, it is."
After all, the more Donovan had looked down on Cedric before, the more baffled he was now. Realizing he had missed such a golden connection must have been devastating for someone as opportunistic as Donovan.
"You!" Donovan lunged forward, ready to demand more answers, but Cedric shoved him back.
"Stay away from her. If you want to beg for mercy, just do it. Isn't that what you people love to do?"
Donovan stumbled back, his eyes burning with resentment as he glared at Cedric.
