Tim was eating cake when he heard her and looked over with a puzzled expression. “Yeah? What’s up?”
Amelia gripped the bedsheet nervously.
“I’d like to ask something. Back in university, did you have a classmate with the last name Jewell?
“Was she especially close to Mason?”
Tim paused, confusion flickering across his face.
After a few seconds, as if it finally clicked, he said, “Jewell? Oh, you mean Phoebe?”
The moment he spoke the name, Amelia felt her chest tighten.
So her name was Phoebe Jewell.
Her face paled slightly, but she nodded, instinctively confirming it.
Tim’s expression turned a bit complicated. He scratched his head, carefully choosing his words. “Our relationship with her … How should I put it? Not really close. Phoebe has a rather
distinctive personality. She doesn’t like socializing. Back then, she mostly talked to Mason and hardly bothered with the rest of us. But…”

He seemed ready to say more. But before he could finish, the ward door suddenly opened.
“What’s all the chatter about?”
A familiar male voice sounded as Mason’s tall figure appeared at the doorway.
The afternoon sunlight framed him in a soft golden glow, but it did nothing to soften his natural intensity.
Tim’s next words caught in his throat.
He’d meant to explain, “But Phoebe’s feelings were mostly one–sided. Mason never treated her differently. He always kept clear boundaries.”
Mason’s sudden appearance cut Tim’s unfinished sentence short, like a period dropped at the
wrong moment.

To Amelia, it almost felt like a silent confirmation that Phoebe and Mason had shared something more than ordinary.
A bitter ache settled in her chest.
“Mason, you’re back,” Amelia said softly.

“Hey, Mason.” Seeing the main person arrive, Tim immediately stood up and greeted him with a smile.
Mason nodded slightly at Tim, then turned his gaze to Amelia. Noticing her pale face, he frowned faintly.
Tim, quick to read the situation, decided it was time to go.
He dusted his hands and told Amelia, “Alright, the care package is delivered. Mission accomplished. Get some rest. Don’t worry about work. If anything urgent comes up, I’ll let you
know.”
“Okay. Thanks, Mr. Clem,” Amelia said, forcing a small smile.
Tim ruffled Hayden’s hair, smiled at Mason in farewell, and left the ward.
Mason sensed Amelia’s low mood. He reached out, intending to check her forehead, and asked quietly, “What’s wrong? You look pale. Is the wound acting up?”
His fingertips felt faintly cool. Just as he was about to touch her skin, Amelia instinctively turned her head away, avoiding his touch.
A flicker of surprise crossed Mason’s eyes. He stared at her intently.
Amelia avoided his gaze. Lowering her head, she said dully, “No. I’m fine.”
Mason didn’t press further and silently withdrew his hand.
Soon after, the special dinner he’d ordered arrived.
“Eat a little,” he said.
“I’m not hungry.” Amelia shook her head.
“Even if you’re not hungry, you still need to eat.” His tone carried a hint of authority.
In the end, she didn’t argue. He helped her sit up, and she slowly took a few spoonfuls of
congee.
After eating absentmindedly for a bit, she set the spoon down.
