Clara froze for a moment, then her eyes lit up. Beatrice had a point.

Kennedy looked at his daughter, studying her.

“Beatrice is right,” Kennedy said, crushing his cigar into the ashtray. “We’re her adoptive parents. Since she’s injured and in the hospital, we should visit her.”

While they were at it, they could test the waters. Maybe they could squeeze a share of benefits out of the Everetts for the Harlow Group.

Clara immediately perked up, all traces of gloom gone. “Yes! Let’s go! Someone has the chef make the best bone broth. I’ll bring it to the hospital myself!”

Beatrice’s lips curved into a cold smile as she watched them spring into action.
