“No way…” Tyler gripped the wheel, eyes wide in shock, barely able to believe what he was seeing. “Ms. Harlow knows Mason?”

Henry, who had been lazily leaning back in his seat, followed Tyler’s gaze.

His eyes landed on Mason gently patting Amelia’s head and on Amelia looking up at him so naturally. Slowly, his expression darkened.

“So…” he finally said, his voice flat, betraying nothing, “you know this guy?”

“Of course!” Tyler said, full of awe. “Henry, that’s Mason Everett! The real head of the Everetts now. His wealth and background… wow, it’s the kind of ultra–rich stuff movies can’t even make up.”

He hesitated, then ventured, “Henry, maybe we skip tomorrow’s plan? I mean, Mr. Everett and Ms. Harlow don’t seem like strangers. If you really want to go out, I can make do with this gear, and we can just go fishing instead.”

Henry said nothing.

His long fingers idly twisted the ridiculous facekini in his hand, replaying in his mind the subtle closeness between Amelia and Mason.

A few seconds passed, then he lifted the corner of his mouth in a tight smile, one that didn’t reach his eyes.

“Why skip it?” he asked lightly, tossing the mask aside. “It’s already planned.”

Tyler froze, opening his mouth to argue, then quickly swallowed his words when he met Henry’s unyielding gaze.

He started the trailer silently, driving away from the hotel.

The moment the trailer pulled off, the space in front of the entrance felt suddenly empty.

Mason watched it go and calmly asked Amelia, “Is that

your friend?”

“Yeah,” she nodded, saying nothing more.

Somehow, at his quiet question, a flicker of guilt rose in her chest, like she’d just been caught red–handed.

“Oh, the rain stopped, but it’s still chilly outside. Let’s get inside and talk,” Lily said quickly, keeping the mood light, and ushered everyone into the hotel’s lobby.

Amelia’s eyes immediately landed on the side of the lobby, where attendants were carefully watching a few high–end suitcases.

She couldn’t help but ask, “Mason, did you just get here?”

“Yes,” Mason replied. “We were just about to check in when Tim said he saw you getting off that trailer.”

He gave Tim a nod, and the two of them headed toward the front desk to get their room keys.

Taking advantage of the pause, Lily leaned close to Amelia, lowering her voice, her face full of worry. “Gosh. Mason actually came all the way to Lingchers to find you… and you promised to take Henry out today. What are we going to do?”

Amelia forced a smile and tried to reason with herself. “They said they’re on a work trip, right? And Mason isn’t the type to just drop everything for fun… so… it’s probably just a coincidence.”

Even as she said it, she knew deep down that it probably wasn’t that simple.

At the front desk, Mason and Tim quickly got their room cards.

Amelia took the moment to call the rental place to pick up the scooter.

Mason glanced at his watch, then turned to Amelia and Lily. “We’ll put our stuff in the room, then let’s head down for dinner.”

Tim followed behind, holding two room cards. As he passed Lily, he deliberately slowed, waving one of the cards in front of her eyes with a teasing grin.

The card flipped and twirled between his fingers like a taunting butterfly.

Lily’s patience snapped.

Through her thin top, she pinched Tim’s firm waist hard.

“Behave!” she hissed through clenched teeth. But even as she warned him, a faint blush crept up her pale cheeks.
