Chapter 364 Heat Beneath the Silence
The afternoon plan was a short drive to a famous desert site nearby.
Finished
It was a vast, lonely stretch of land. Years of wind and sand had worn down the old city walls. All that remained were broken stones and fallen sections, standing quietly, telling stories of the past without a sound.
To reach the main ruins, visitors had to take a shared shuttle bus from the entrance.
There weren’t many people on board. Mason naturally chose a window seat and pulled Amelia down to sit beside him.
Tim and Lily took the row in front of them.
The shuttle rolled forward slowly. Outside the window, the land looked wide and empty, stretching far into the distance.
From the moment they got on, Mason had been holding tightly interlocked.
His hand was warm, as always.
But today, that warmth made Amelia restless.

Her mind was full of plans for the night ahead. Her heart raced, and she couldn’t stop it.
She could clearly feel sweat forming in her palm, hot, damp, and impossible to ignore.
Mason noticed almost at once.
He frowned slightly and looked at her flushed face.
His thumb brushed across the back of her hand, then he wrapped it more tightly in his. “What’s wrong?” he asked softly. “Are you feeling okay? Your hand is really hot.”
His low, calm voice carried clearly through the gently rocking bus.
Amelia’s heart jumped. It felt like her secret thoughts had been caught red–handed. She panicked and suddenly couldn’t speak smoothly at all.
Before she could figure out how to answer, Lily let out a small snort of laughter from the front
row.
The sound was sharp in the quiet bus, filled with poorly hidden amusement.

Tim had been looking out the window. He turned around, confused. “What are you laughing at?”
Lily realized she’d slipped. There was no way she could expose Amelia’s secret plan now. She waved her hands quickly and grabbed at the first excuse she could find. “N–nothing! I … I just saw a rock over there that looked exactly like a dog. Didn’t you see it?”
Tim and Mason both looked in the direction she pointed. All they saw was yellow sand and a few ordinary rocks.
While their attention was elsewhere, Amelia took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down.
She tugged lightly at the hand Mason was holding and answered with wandering eyes, “I’m fine. I think I just … wore too many clothes. I’m a bit warm.”
It sounded reasonable. Mason didn’t press further, though ‘‘ fade.

Amelia tried to slow her breathing. But no matter how hard she tried, her gaze kept drifting back to Mason, as if pulled there against her will.
This time, her gaze was clearly different from before.
Amelia looked at his sharp jawline. She watched his throat move when he swallowed, strangely attractive. She noticed the faint blue veins standing out on the back of his hand as he held hers.
Every detail she could see, she quietly compared in her mind to Lily’s words about “overwhelming hormones.”
Her eyes were focused, a little dazed, and slightly panicked.
There was even something … foolishly entranced by her expression.
Mason was far too perceptive not to notice her unusual stare.
He gave no reaction. His face stayed calm, as if he were simply watching the bleak scenery rushing past the window.
But if one looked closely, they would see his jaw tighten just a bit, giving away the stir beneath his composure.
There were too many people around. And especially with Tim and Lily sitting in the front, Those two loved a good show; he couldn’t ask anything outright.
All he could do was tighten their joined hands in a corner no one was watching. He closed his palm around hers with quiet force, as if silently reminding Amelia that he was there and

Amelia felt the shift in the strength of his grip. Guiltily, she curled her fingers, trying to pull back. Instead, he held her even tighter, firm and unyielding.
For the rest of the tour at the ruins, Amelia wandered through in a daze.
The guide talked about centuries of wind and sand, about the rise and fall of ancient kingdoms. She didn’t hear a single word.
The broken walls and dusty paths blurred into a dull backdrop.
All her attention was fixed on the tall man beside her.
He never let go of her hand. His warm palm wrapped around her slightly sweaty fingers.
He walked on the outer side, keeping her safely inside, blocking the occasional crowd for her.
When they went up or down stone steps, he slowed without thinking, steadying her with his
arm.
Every action was thoughtful, natural, and full of quiet energy.
As Amelia felt his care, her mind raced nonstop.
Just imagining that moment made her cheeks burn.
Could she really do it?
And if he gave no reaction, how was she supposed to handle the situation?
