Amelia hadn’t yet recovered from the sudden kiss when she felt her hand being taken in his.
Her hands and feet were always prone to getting cold, and right now they felt like blocks of ice.
Mason held her icy hand, his brow knitting even tighter
The next second, he pulled her fully into his arms, caught her cold hands and feet, and–without ceremony -tucked them beneath his warm loungewear, pressing them against his solid, heat–radiating waist and chest.
“Ah.” Amelia sucked in a sharp breath, startled by the searing warmth of his skin.
The man tightened his arms around her, holding her fast.
“My body runs hot. I’m not afraid of the cold.
“Be good. Hold onto me. It’ll stop hurting soon.”
Amelia woke up wrapped in a warmth so comforting it felt unreal.
The nagging, dragging pain in her lower abdomen was gone without a trace, replaced by a long–missed sense of ease.
She opened her eyes groggily, her mind still hazy, aware only of the steady, burning heat behind her.
Her body stiffened before the realization caught up with her. She was practically curled up in Mason’s arms, his arm still looped around her, never once loosening through the night.
She had to admit, Mason as a human heating pad worked astonishingly well.
Holding her breath, she carefully shifted her gaze. What met her eyes was the sharply defined line of his jaw, and the subtle rise and fall of his throat with each calm breath.
He was still asleep, deeply so. His eyes, usually sharp and aggressive, were closed.
Amelia’s heart skipped, completely out of her control.
She didn’t dare look any longer. Carefully, sh
slipped her hands and feet free from his hold.
Fortunately, he was sleeping soundly.
Only when she finally made her escape did she let out a long breath.
She glanced back at the man still asleep on the bed, at the sheets rumpled by his presence, and felt her cheeks warm.
She turned and hurried into the bathroom.
Half an hour later, Amelia appeared in the dining room wearing a tailored dress and light, polished makeup. The moment she did, everyone froze for a beat.
Nora was holding a glass of milk. Seeing how refreshed Amelia looked, she asked in surprise, “Amelia, are you really planning to go to the office today?”

Amelia walked over and took her seat. “Yes. I’ve been idle at home for far too long. If I don’t find something to do soon, I feel like I’ll waste away.”
“That’s good. Ambition is a fine thing in the young,” Nora said, relieved. Then another thought crossed her mind. She glanced toward the staircase and smiled. “Mason is heading to the company later as well. Let him drop you off on the way. It’ll save you the trouble.”
Amelia picked up a slice of toast and refused without a second thought.
“No need. Taking a ride is convenient.” She explained, “And today is my first day. If my colleagues see me arrive with my second brother, it won’t look good.”
She didn’t want to be seen as someone who climbed up through connections, nor did she want her own effort and professionalism overshadowed by the weight of Mason’s name.
Nora was about to say more when footsteps sounded from the stairs.
Mason came down from upstairs.
His gaze swept the dining room before settling on Amelia. Something deepened in his eyes.
After breakfast, the car Amelia had booked arrived right on time at the gate.
It had been a while since Amelia last came to the Stardale Group building.
She paid the fare, stepped out, and paused at the entrance. The flowerbeds outside had already been replanted with a new round of bluebells.
She took a deep breath, straightened her back, and walked into the revolving door.
The lobby was busy, people moving briskly in every direction, filled with the fast–paced energy of an elite workplace.
She had barely stepped inside when Amanda’s bright, lively voice rang out.
“Amelia, over here.”
“Sorry for the trouble,” Amelia said, smiling warmly at her.
The receptionist watched with curiosity, whispering to a colleague she knew while casting a probing look at Amelia.
Who was this woman?
She looked unfamiliar, yet her presence was unmistakable.
Amanda caught their murmurs.
With a hint of pride, she introduced Amelia to the front desk. “This is our design director, Amelia Harlow.”
At once, the receptionist’s curiosity turned into understanding and respect. She quickly stood up and offered a professional, courteous smile. “Hello, Ms. Harlow.”
Amelia nodded in acknowledgment, paying little attention to the brief interruption, and followed Amanda
toward the elevators.

Tim’s office looked much the same as before, except for several lush green plants by the floor–to–ceiling windows.
Tim himself sat behind his desk looking positively radiant. That air of triumph was so strong it could be felt from ten meters away.
“You’re here?” Tim said with a grin, immediately standing up when he saw her.
