Chapter 414 The Long Wait
The car slowed and came to a stop in front of the company building.
Mason looked at Amelia quietly, waiting for her answer.
Meeting his expectant gaze, Amelia felt her heart jump up into her throat.
She took a deep breath and tried to keep her voice steady. “I’ll think about it.”
It was not a rejection, and the light in Mason’s eyes immediately brightened.
He leaned over and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. “Okay. I’ll pick you up after work.”
“Mm,” Amelia replied softly as she unbuckled her seatbelt and stepped out of the car.
Once she immersed herself in work, the emotional warmth from the morning was pushed to the back of her mind.
Tim had already set a firm final deadline, and the entire Design Department was running at full speed. As the department head, Amelia had no room to slack off.
She needed to double–check every detail and make sure the Design Department would never become the weak link holding the whole project back.
Time flew by in the tense, fast–paced atmosphere.
By afternoon, Amelia was in her office, going over revision notes line by line with a lead designer.
“The lines here can be simplified a bit more. We’re aiming for modern minimalism, not layered complexity. And the colors, try lowering the saturation by two levels. We want a refined, slightly distant feel…”
She was mid–explanation when excited voices suddenly rose from outside her office.
“Look! It’s finally snowing!”
“Wow, it really is. That’s a lot of snow!”
Amelia stopped mid–sentence and instinctively turned toward the floor–to–ceiling window.
Outside, the sky had grown darker without her noticing. Snowflakes were drifting down in thick clusters.
They spun and danced through the air, carrying a romance that had arrived late but with full force.
After finishing the final round of revisions with the lead designer, Amelia gathered her files and returned to her office.
Outside, the long–awaited snowfall showed no sign of stopping. Instead, it grew heavier.
The snow broke free from the lead–gray sky and quickly turned everything in sight into a field of white,

Finished
The snow had already ignited everyone’s excitement for getting off work. Colleagues gathered in small groups, eagerly discussing fondue dinner or movie dates for the evening.
The office buzzed with a relaxed, almost festive energy.
Caught up in the mood, Amelia’s heart stirred. She took the initiative and sent Mason a message.
“Are you going back to Evan’s this afternoon? If not, do you want to have dinner out tonight?”
The moment she sent it, her heart skipped a beat.
This was almost the first time she had ever been this proactive.
Seconds passed. Then minutes. Her phone remained silent.
The courage she had just worked up slowly drained away with the wait.
Was he busy?
Or did he think her invitation was too sudden?
Maybe the snow was not that important after all.
Just as her thoughts started spiraling, the screen finally lit up.
It was Mason’s reply, but only a short line. “I was in a meeting. We’ll see.”
Amelia lowered her eyes, a trace of disappointment slipping through before she quickly talked herself out of it.
He had been running back and forth these past few days and still trying to be attentive to her feelings. How could he have the energy to think about romantic moments like this?
By early evening, the sky outside had fully darkened.
Amelia packed up her things and walked out of the office building.
A sharp, icy wind rushed toward her, making her instinctively tuck her chin down..
Because of the snow, traffic was moving painfully slow. The entire city was trapped in sluggish congestion.
She walked to the usual spot where the driver waited, only to find it empty.
