Chapter 415 Too Close
The dim streetlight behind Mason cast a long shadow, and the swirling snow became the most romantic backdrop.
Amelia ran toward him, her bag swinging at her side.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?” she asked, tilting her head up at him. The tip of her nose was red from the cold. “I thought you’d already gone back to Evan’s.”
“I tried calling. Your phone didn’t go through,” Mason said simply.
“Oh…” Amelia suddenly remembered. She quickly pulled out her completely dead phone and waved it awkwardly in front of him. “That’s my fault. It probably froze. The battery shut off in the cold.”
Mason looked at her slightly clueless expression and shook his head with quiet resignation. Then he reached out and naturally took her right hand, which had been exposed to the freezing air.
Her hand felt like ice.
Without saying a word, he guided her cold fingers into the warm pocket of his coat along with his own.
Only after doing that did he lower his head and look at her steadily. “So, have you decided what you want to eat?”
Amelia’s heart skipped.
So he had remembered.
She shook her head honestly. “You seemed really busy this afternoon, so I stopped thinking about it.”
They walked side by side in the snow under the same umbrella.
Snowflakes tapped softly against the fabric overhead.
Amelia looked at his sharp profile and felt the firm warmth of his hand inside the coat pocket. All the uncertainty she had felt earlier turned into something steady and sweet.
They headed to a nearby shopping mall, only to discover that because of the sudden snowfall, almost every restaurant had a long line outside.
They checked several places they liked, but each one told them the wait would be at least an hour.
Looking at the endless lines, Amelia felt the fragile spark of romance she had built up start to fade under the noisy reality.
She tugged lightly on Mason’s sleeve and said quietly, “Forget it. It’s too crowded. Let’s just

The main house lights were off, and the butler and staff who usually came to greet them were nowhere to

Amelia looked around uneasily. “Why is no one here?”
Mason closed the car door and led her into the warm entryway. He calmly turned on the living room lights.
Soft light filled the space instantly.
“I gave everyone the day off,” he explained casually.
Amelia froze.
A day off?
So in this massive estate tonight, there were only the two of them?
Her heartbeat began to race. “Then … what are we eating?” she asked, stumbling slightly over her words. Mason took off his coat and unfastened the cuffs of his shirt, revealing strong forearms.
“You think I’d let you go hungry?” he said with a raised brow, his tone teasing.
He walked straight into the kitchen, opened the large double–door refrigerator, and took out two steaks that had clearly been prepared in advance.
Amelia leaned against the kitchen doorway, watching the man who usually commanded boardrooms now tie on an apron and cook for her.
He turned on the stove and melted butter in a pan.
His movements were focused and smooth.
The warm glow of the kitchen lights softened his features, and Amelia found herself completely absorbed in the sight.
Just then, Mason reached for a bottle of red wine to add to the pan. As he turned, he met Amelia’s gaze, which had been fixed on him.
His hand paused, and a slow smile curved his lips.
“What? Mesmerized?”
