Chapter 470 Ungrateful Son

Everything that happened was because of her useless son. She passed away in sheer anger.
If Derek hadn’t lost his mind and listened to Celia’s instigation, trying to seize power and spew outrageous accusations in front of their mother, she wouldn’t have been so furious that her condition worsened,
She wouldn’t have died like that.
A tidal wave of regret crashed down on him.
Smack! Smack! Smack!
Derek’s eyes were bloodshot as he raised his hand and slapped himself repeatedly.
“Dad, stop it!” Nolan hurried forward to grab his arm.
Celia wasn’t about to let him drown in pointless guilt.
She held his hand tightly and snapped, “Derek! Snap out of it! Look at yourself!
“Your precious son, Ethan, locked you up and didn’t even let you see your mom one last time! Now she’s gone, and they’re probably scheming over her inheritance already!
“You, her real son, are being pushed aside and won’t get a thing! And you’re still crying over her? Do you think that’s fair to Nolan and me?
“Have you forgotten what you promised me? Do you want me and our son thrown out, broke and humiliated, living on scraps?”
Then she threw herself into his arms, sobbing as if the future was hopeless.
Derek’s expression shifted.
She was right.
Not only had his ungrateful son put him under house arrest, but now he was trying to seize the family assets that should have belonged to him!
Celia’s words had hit the weakest, most selfish part of Derek’s heart.
The grief in his eyes slowly turned dark and vicious.
He looked at Celia and Nolan, breathing hard. “Then … what should we do now?”
Seeing his reaction, Celia knew he was already halfway convinced.
She secretly let out a breath of relief, helped Derek steady himself, and wiped away her staged tears.
“Derek, don’t rush,” she said softly. “We don’t know the full picture yet.
“Your son’s influence is far greater than yours after all these years. If we act rashly at the funeral, Ethan’s

people could catch us before we even set foot inside. Then we’d be trapped with no way out.”
The anger Derek had just felt quickly cooled under the harsh reality.
He might be clouded with grief, but he wasn’t stupid.
“Isn’t that obvious?!” he snapped, shaking off Celia’s hand and pacing the room.

Then he started cursing wildly again. “That ungrateful brat! He’s nothing like our obedient Nolan! If I’d known he’d turn out like this, I should’ve had his mother abort him back then! It would’ve saved me from raising such a heartless kid!”
Listening to his vicious curses, Celia put on a fake, soothing smile.
“Alright. Venting like this won’t solve anything.”
Once his emotions calmed a bit, she finally revealed her real plan.
“Derek, why don’t we reach out to Hannah and see if she can help us find out what’s going on with the Rowes?”
“Hannah?” Derek repeated, frowning. “That name sounds familiar.”
A flicker of contempt passed through Celia’s eyes, but she kept her tone gentle.
She explained patiently, “Have you forgotten? She’s Ethan’s childhood sweetheart. She was married before and even has a child. If she hadn’t suddenly shown up back then and stirred everything into chaos, Ethan wouldn’t have divorced Amelia.
“Hannah is desperate to marry Ethan and become the glamorous Mrs. Rowe. But Ethan still has feelings for his ex and treats Hannah coldly, never giving her a real chance. So she came to us for help, hoping we’d work together. She wants your support and for you to speak for her in the family.”
Derek stopped pacing. His cloudy eyes flickered with suspicion.
“Can we trust her?” he asked darkly. “What if she’s just manipulating us, only to betray us to Ethan in the end, using us to win his favor?”
“Relax,” Celia said confidently as she pulled him down to sit. “Do you know why I got you out today without a hitch? Hannah tipped me off. She told me exactly where you were held and the guard shifts.
“She also said Ethan planned to kick me and Nolan out of the country while your mom was still sick! If she hadn’t passed suddenly and thrown off his plan, we’d still be hiding outside right now, too scared to return home!”
