Chapter 642 The Man from Porteria
-5 Pears
Back in the sitting room, Dubois and Mason were on the couch talking. They both rose when the women. came in, and Dubois noticed immediately that Amelia’s color was off.
“Ms. Harlow, you look a little pale. Was it too stuffy in there?”
It was the perfect excuse, and she took it gratefully. “Maybe a little,” she said. Her voice didn’t quite sound like her own.
Mason was already beside her. He looked at her face and didn’t bother concealing his concern. He lowered his voice to something only she could hear.
“Did you find what you were looking for?”
Amelia looked up at him and nodded, once, with the full weight of what she’d seen behind it.
The moon-white gown. It had to be the last piece, the one that had come from the Porteria businessman’s wife.
Dubois, unaware of any of this, turned his attention cheerfully to the business of dinner and signaled for the staff to begin serving. The table filled with course after course of Farolian food, and the atmosphere lightened accordingly.
Throughout the meal, Mason’s attention barely left Amelia.
He served her first, cut her steak into pieces without being asked, and refilled her juice the moment she set the glass down. All of it done quietly, without comment, as though it were simply what he did.
Dubois watched this for a while before he couldn’t help himself. “Mason, I’ve known you for years. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this side of you.”
He smiled. “Should we be expecting a wedding announcement?”
Mason’s knife stilled for just a moment. He looked up, and his gaze went to Amelia first, something deep and unhurried in it, before he turned to Dubois and answered in Farolian, his tone easy but without any give in it.
“Not yet. But I am ready whenever she is.”
Amelia didn’t catch a word of it. But she didn’t need to. She had seen the way he looked at her in that
before he answered, and what was in his eyes needed no translation. pause
After dinner, the estate’s butler came in to announce that a visitor had arrived at the gate. Dubois rose with an amused expression. “That’ll be our eager buyer. Excuse me for a moment.“
The sitting room went quiet.
He returned shortly, and with him came a man who looked to be a few years older than him, lean and straight-backed in a well-cut dark suit. His face was distinctly Amitian, the kind of face that had seen considerable weather, though his eyes were sharp and alert.

Chapter 642 The Man from Porteria
“This is Mr. Lenny Jewell, from Porteria,” Dubois said warmly.
Lenny shook Sophie’s hand and exchanged a few brief pleasantries. Then his gaze moved naturally across the room to where Mason and Amelia were sitting.
The moment his eyes found Amelia’s face, his shoulders went rigid. The shift in the room was immediate, though no one named it.
