Chapter 653 Easily Played
“So…” Amelia concluded, “You should go home.”
This was some form of bitter irony.
Ethan’s expression changed.
However, he knew that Amelia was right.
Just as Ethan was feeling helpless, his phone suddenly rang.
It was an unfamiliar number.
As if he had been jolted awake, Ethan answered the call in front of Amelia and Mason.
Before he could speak, a high–pitched, sweet voice came from the other end of the line, almost making his skin crawl.
“Ethan, I know you’re in Premond as well. Let’s… let’s meet.”
It was Hannah.
Ethan felt himself break out in nervous sweat.
He had just arrived in Premond. Other than Amelia and Mason, no one else knew he was here.
The fact that Hannah had tracked his movements so accurately only meant that her watch over this place had far exceeded his worst expectations.
Ethan forced down the shock in his voice, and he lowered his voice. “There’s no need for us to meet.”
However, Hannah just let out a low laugh on the other end of the line.
“Fine. That’s up to you.”
Before Ethan could react, Hannah hung up on him.
Listening to the empty tone from his phone, Ethan’s expression darkened.
“Was it Hannah?” Amelia’s clear voice sounded.
Ethan looked up. In the short time he’d been on the call, Amelia seemed to have figured it all out.
Ethan’s lips twitched in a form of acknowledgement.
Almost immediately, he changed the subject. His voice was hoarse as he said, “I’ll think about what you said.”
Ethan was referring to Amelia’s suggestion for him to return to Eldoria.
Amelia didn’t say anything more. She merely nodded lightly before she and Mason got to their feet and left.
Ethan watched the two of them walk away together, feeling more uneasy.
The calmer Hannah behaved, the more he was certain that she had some sort of trump card in her hand. which gave her the confidence to act without restraint.
No, I can’t just leave like this. Ethan thought.
Forcing down the irritation that he’d played right into her hands, Ethan followed the butler into the estate without any expression on his face.
In the living room, a crystal chandelier sparkled brilliantly, its light spilling across the polished marble floor. Expensive oil paintings hung on the walls, and every piece of furniture exuded a sense of rich history.
This had to be Lenny’s Premond villa.
A lone figure was seated upright on the velvet couch.
Hannah wore an exquisite gown and a glittering diamond necklace around her neck.
Ethan glanced around the room.
“No need to look around.” Hannah said with a smile. “My dad isn’t here.
She instructed the maids to bring Ethan some coffee, her commanding manner making it seem as if she had been born to live this kind of life.
Ethan sat across from her, and she asked in a fake tone of concern. “Ethan, it’s been a while. How is… Isla?
Ethan’s eyes turned cold immediately.
His lips twitched, and he spoke again, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “You have your own ways of finding out how she’s doing. Why bother asking me?”
Hannah seemed amused by his words and laughed aloud.
“Yeah.” Hannah’s eyes flickered with a mix of arrogance and resentment. “Speaking of which, I should thank you. After all, you went out of your way to send me to Porteria. I might have had a bit of a rough time, but at the end of the day, I somehow found my real father. Isn’t it funny how life works?”
