His face was cold as he stared her down and demanded, “Hannah, what exactly are you up to?”

Faced with his interrogation, the smile on Hannah’s face didn’t change at all. Instead, she looked innocent, even puzzled.

She let out a dismissive laugh. “So what if I can’t beat him? My dad feels like he owes me a lot right now. He’d probably pluck the moon out of the sky if I asked. If there’s something I want, there’s nothing he wouldn’t do to get it for me.”

Her voice was filled with the confidence of someone who had been completely spoiled. “The Everett family is powerful, sure, and not easy to mess with. But so what? There’s still Wilda. I’ve heard she’s never approved of Amelia marrying into the family. As long as Wilda is around, Mason will have to hold himself back. He wouldn’t really turn against his whole family over one woman, would he?”

“You’re being way too naive,” Ethan said bluntly, tearing apart her fantasy. “Then go ahead and try. Go head–to–head with him and see if, for Amelia, Mason would dare tear everything you have down.”

The last few words came out heavy, filled with ruthless certainty.

I’ll say Amelia has no professional integrity and that she took the money and walked away halfway through. Let’s see how she keeps working as a designer in this industry after that.”

Whether open schemes or hidden ones, she had prepared both for Amelia. It was a dead end either way.
