Pedro let the smile spread across his face.
He knew that Beatrice had agreed. The conversation with her family was a formality.

She looked at him. “Mason, do you already have something planned?”
He didn’t answer directly. Instead, he moved the plate closer to her side. “Eat before it gets cold.”
Then he glanced up with just a trace of a knowing look. “You’ll understand when the time
comes.”
Two days later, at the Eldoria International Airport…
Amelia and Tim were there to meet Lenny.
Tim leaned slightly toward her as they waited, keeping his voice low. “You mentioned on the phone that Hannah had apparently become Lenny’s daughter overnight. I thought that was strange enough. But thinking about it more, I still can’t figure out how those two ended connected. There’s no obvious link.”
Amelia had been turning the same question over in her own head since the phone call.
up
Tim nudged her elbow lightly and tilted his head toward the arrivals area. “Speak of the devil.”
Amelia followed his gaze. Lenny was making his way through the crowd, pushing a luggage cart at a measured pace.
Hannah was right beside him, staying close, leaning up occasionally to say something to him with an expression of devoted, attentive sweetness.
“Interesting,” Tim murmured, keeping his voice barely above a breath. “Looking at them now, they really don’t read as father and daughter at all. Lenny’s got strong, defined features, the kind that are naturally distinguished. Hannah’s attractive too, sure, but there’s something about her features and the look in her eyes that’s in a completely different register. They don’t match.”
Amelia looked more carefully at the two of them as they approached.
Tim was right. Hannah’s eyes, nose, the shape of her face, none of it echoed anything in Lenny’s features.
If Amelia hadn’t already been told, the thought that they were related would never have crossed her mind.
While she was still turning this over, Lenny had already reached them. He smiled warmly and extended his hand to Amelia first. “It’s good to see you again, Ms. Harlow.”
Then his gaze shifted to Tim, and a small furrow appeared between his brows. “And this is…?”
Amelia shook his hand and gestured to Tim. “Mr. Jewell, this is Tim Clem, our company’s general manager.”

“Tim?” Lenny’s expression shifted to something puzzled. “Then who was the one who came with you during our negotiation in Premond?”
Tim smiled, entirely at ease, and offered the explanation without any particular defensiveness.
“Mr. Jewell, that was actually a case of mistaken identity. I was originally supposed to come to Premond myself, but my wife had a health issue that week and I couldn’t leave. So our CEO, Mason Everett, went in my place.
“Someone at your branch office apparently didn’t recognize Mr. Everett and assumed he was me. Mr. Everett decided not to correct the misunderstanding on the spot, because he was concerned that a last-minute personnel change might give the impression that we weren’t taking the collaboration seriously. So he let it stand.”
