Chapter 697 Meeting Old Friends
Amelia watched the two of them together and felt a quiet warmth bloom in her chest on Li behalf.
She and Lily had been apart for a stretch, so they fell into easy conversation and let it run, moving from pregnancy symptoms and prenatal routines to recent Eldoria news and old shared memories, the kind of talk that picked up exactly where it had left off.
The private room’s door swung open gently while they were still laughing.
A server ushered Lenny’s party inside.
Amelia looked up instinctively. Lenny came in first, the same composed, dignified presence sh remembered, naturally commanding without trying too hard.

Amelia couldn’t have said exactly why, but something in those words, and in that warm, seemingly sincere expression, stirred an instinctive resistance in her.
There was something underneath the softness that she couldn’t name, something that sat deeper than what Faye was putting forward.
She let none of it show.
“You must have been very close to her,” Amelia said, following the thread politely. “To know her dreams that well.”
Faye’s expression moved into something that looked like memory. She exhaled softly, her voice taking on the tone of someone reminiscing about the past. “We grew up together. We were inseparable for as long as I can remember. She loved design and art, and I loved watching her work toward something she cared about. When she became a designer, I became her assistant, and we traveled everywhere together.
“The years she spent building something in Premond were the hardest of her life. I was there with her through all of it. Then Lenny found her and brought her to Porteria to recover, and I came back home to work. We promised each other that when she was better, we’d come back and pick up where we left off.
“Her mental health did improve somewhat, but she never fully recovered her strength. Lenny brought her back here for a change of scenery, hoping a different environment might help.
“Demi fell in love with Eldoria, said it had a depth to it that gave her new creative ideas. They found a quiet house out in the countryside and stayed for a while.” She paused. “That was when she became pregnant.”
Faye delivered all of it with the intimate detail of someone who had lived the story herself.
Hannah seized her cue. Her body gave a small, visible shiver, and her eyes welled up on schedule.
“So that was when I came into the world,” she said softly, “I want so much to see where she lived before she was gone.”
She raised one hand and brushed delicately at the corner of her eye, where there were no tears.
The act was probably convincing enough for Lenny and Faye.
Lenny patted Hannah’s hand gently. “We’ll go tomorrow, sweetheart. I promise.”
Faye offered a warm, maternal smile. “Demi would have been so proud of the person you’ve become.”
The expressions on Amelia’s side of the table were, collectively, a great deal harder to read.
