No Sex for Six Years Because of Her? I'm Done novel Chapter 700

Chapter 700 Toss Back

Hannah’s jealousy had completely overrun her judgment, and she missed the trap entirely. She squared her shoulders with misplaced confidence and climbed right onto the opening Mason had given her. “Actually, yes. My father’s company is large, and there are always positions available. If you aren’t too proud to accept, I can put in a word with him for you.”

Lenny’s expression darkened in a way that silenced the table. He kept his voice controlled, but the edge in it was unmistakable. “What are you saying? Mr. Everett has built more than most people will in a lifetime. A title change doesn’t diminish that.”

Hannah pulled her chin in and let her mouth close, silently stewing in humiliation.

Since she had nowhere to direct the frustration, she looked at the table, had a different idea, and signaled the server over.

She pointed to the most expensive items on the menu, one after another, and ordered several of them.

Then she shot Amelia a loaded look across the table, as though she genuinely believed this dinner bill had the power to bankrupt her.

Near the end of the meal, Ethan stood, glanced down at Isla, and made his farewell to the table in an easy, unhurried tone. “Isla needs to get back to her schoolwork tomorrow. We’ll head out.”

Hannah went still. She had rehearsed hundreds of variations of the same scenario in her head throughout dinner, preparing for the moment Ethan would say something damaging, preparing her responses, her defenses, her performance as a long-suffering mother who had only ever sacrificed for her child.

But Ethan hadn’t said a single word beyond what was necessary. He had simply appeared, stayed, and left, and the absence of any attack left her with a disoriented, unsettled feeling that was somehow worse than if he’d come at her directly.

Lenny seemed to have lost his appetite for the evening as well. He pressed two fingers to his temple and spoke with the low, tired authority of someone who had seen enough. “It’s been a long night. Everyone should rest.”

Hannah followed Lenny back to the hotel in a state of suppressed anxiety, watching his face the entire way, trying to read whatever Ethan had set in motion.

But Lenny was completely quiet, lost in thought and impossible to read.

The moment Hannah’s figure disappeared behind the elevator doors, Lenny’s tired expression dissolved into something sharp and cold.

He signaled to one of the trusted staff traveling with him and lowered his voice. “Reach out to Ethan. I need a biological sample from Isla.”

If Hannah was truly his daughter, then a child of Hannah’s would carry his bloodline too. It was a simple enough thing to verify.

In her suite, Hannah lay awake, unable to find rest.

The crystal chandelier above her had been dimmed as low as it would go, but the dim light did nothing to quiet the dread moving through her.

She pushed herself upright from the plush bed and paced the carpet in bare feet, back and forth, unable to stop.

Tonight had run entirely off her script. Every piece of the past she’d worked to outrun had come back to find her at the worst possible moment.

She should never have followed Lenny back to this city. Eldoria was full of variables she couldn’t control.

Amelia was here. Mason was here. Now Ethan too.

She had a hollow, unpleasant certainty building in her chest that if she stayed much longer, she wouldn’t just fail to destroy Amelia. She’d take herself down in the process.

She had already pulled out her phone and was considering booking the earliest available flight back to Porteria, ready to cite poor health as an excuse and get out while she still could.

Then three slow, even knocks landed on the door and sent her heart straight into her throat. Her phone nearly slipped from her fingers.

Who would come at this hour?

She padded warily to the door and pressed her eye to the peephole. In the corridor light stood Faye.

Hannah exhaled part of her tension, then felt a different, deeper uncertainty settle in its place.

She straightened her robe, opened the door, and arranged her face into something appropriately pleasant. “Ms. Foursquare, it’s so late. Is everything all right?”

The woman standing in the doorway was nothing like the Faye from dinner.

The gentle, maternal warmth was completely gone. What Faye wore now was cold eyes and a faint, barely-there smile that carried something calculating underneath it, and her whole presence had shifted into something that made the hairs on Hannah’s arms rise.

“Drop the act, Hannah. I know you’re not who you claim to be. Lenny and Demi’s real daughter, you’re not.”
