**Chapter 78: The Man From That Night**
The man who had just entered the restaurant was a striking figure, with shoulder-length hair that was casually tied back in a loose ponytail. His linen shirt hung effortlessly on his frame, giving him the air of an artist who had little regard for conformity or societal expectations. There was a certain charm about him, a carefree vibe that suggested he lived life on his own terms.
But it was his eyes that truly captivated Lily. Those piercing hunter-green eyes were locked onto her with an intensity that made her heart skip a beat.
Amelia, ever the observant friend, nudged Lily with her elbow just as she was about to slice into her steak. “Hey, that guy behind you,” she whispered, lowering her voice conspiratorially. “Do you know him?”
Lily, caught off guard, swallowed a morsel of beef and turned her head, feigning disinterest. Her gaze flitted over the man quickly, taking in his good features, sharp angles, and that unique vibe that radiated from him.
She shook her head dismissively. “Nope,” she replied, her tone light yet firm. “A face like that? If I’d seen him once, there’s no way I’d forget.”
But just as the words left her lips, the unexpected happened. The man rose from his seat and, with an air of confidence, plopped down into the empty chair beside their table as if he owned the place.
His eyes moved deliberately between the two women, his gaze settling on Lily with a cool intensity. “Ladies,” he said, his voice smooth yet teasing, “you’ve been staring at me for a while. Still can’t remember where we met?”
What an audacious opening line! It felt almost confrontational, as if he were here to settle some old score.
Lily raised an eyebrow, her knife and fork pausing mid-air as she processed his words.
With a dramatic eye roll that could rival any actress on stage, she retorted, “Dude, if this is your way of starting a conversation, it’s a bit outdated. And maybe you should get your eyes checked? Can’t you see we’re together? You’re wasting your time. We’re not interested.”
To sell the act, she leaned closer to Amelia, adopting a pose that screamed intimacy and camaraderie.
The man looked taken aback, his surprise evident as he glanced between the two of them before a crooked smile crept onto his lips. “Whether you’re together or not, that’s your business,” he replied, his tone lightening. “But even if you are, that doesn’t excuse you from kicking me so hard that night I almost lost the chance to have kids.”
Lost his chance to have kids?
The weight of his words hit Lily like a hammer, and her annoyed expression froze as she processed the implications.
Slowly, she turned to scrutinize him again, this time taking in every detail from head to toe. Somewhere in the depths of her mind, a hazy, alcohol-soaked memory began to sharpen.
“You…” she ventured cautiously, a hint of disbelief in her voice, “Don’t tell me you’re the creepy guy who tried to harass us by the river that night?”
