Not just the Beta (Oriana and Slade) novel Chapter 187

Yuri

He couldn’t understand why Londyn was suddenly attacking Terry out of bloody nowhere. Yes, they’d played with each other in the woods back in Greenville, but she’d started that, not him. It was just a bit of fun. All the wolves enjoyed that game, he was no different.

He’d known Terry for a very long time, had been his on and off again girlfriend since he was like 17, they enjoyed each others company when not with another, understood they weren’t Mates and the sex was good between them, could easily sate each other’s needs.

How could he not yell at Londyn for punching Terry with her wolf behind her, he’d known the girl all his life, and she’d been hit properly and gone flying backwards because she’d not been aware of it coming, and her hand was gripping her chest as he helped her up, likely had broken ribs from that hit, and he could see the pain in her expression.

That sudden scream that had come from Londyn as she’d stared at him while he tried to comfort Terry, had completely shocked him almost as much, as both Slade and Vance yanking him and Terry apart and him being shoved away from her, and Slade telling her to go home.

He could see both Zara and Palmer wrapped around Londyn as she kind of just crumpled to the ground sobbing.

Slade had a hand on his arm and was pulling him along a moment later as he was still trying to catch up on what the hell had happened. “What did I do wrong?” he grated out “All I did was defend Terry, it’s also my job as the Delta to protect pack members, and she’s my friend too,”

Slade let him go to walk on his own. “I understand that, Yuri, I’m not mad at you, at the situation only. It’s likely the council are going to come in here and step in,” he muttered.

“Step in? I don’t get it.” Yuri frowned.

“You will.” Palmer sighed “Yuri, Londyn is not like us, she’s likely also only young and has never been with anyone of our Kind before. Slade told you that, warned you even.”

“It was just a bit of fun, a simple game of hunt the prey, I didn’t even have sex with her,” he muttered.

“To you, it was fun, maybe it was more to her.” Slade murmured as they walked into the war room “I hope this, what just happened out there doesn’t affect those four girls adversely. If one is hurt and upset, Yuri.”

“I didn’t do anything wrong.” he repeated himself.

He watched Alpha Gretta walk into the room and look at them all, then settle on him, and she looked unhappy, he thought. Then just stated Londyn had a Mate, was now wearing one of those bands from Alpha College, and it was glowing blue to indicate she had scented out a Mate.

His heart rate increased as she stated they believed it was him, even as she was explaining it to him, to all of them. He was denying it out loud, because his mind was suddenly racing, thinking about the was attracted to him. She had a Mate and had been all attention on him at that dinner.

She had gotten him to play that game of Hunt the Prey, and asked him directly if he wanted to have sex, after she’d touched him and gone down on him, after he’d returned that even.

If she had a Mate, she wouldn’t do any of that with just anyone. No, she would only do that with her actual Mate. He’d heard the words about Londyn shutting herself down, and that maybe it was now too late, and understood in that instant what had really happened out there.

Realised that everybody in this room knew Londyn was his Mate, Palmer had latched onto her, Zara had dropped off her balcony to latch onto her and both Slade and Vance had yanked him and Terry apart. They all knew and hadn’t told him. This could have been prevented if he’d known about it.

Now that pain Londyn had just felt when he’d held Terry to try and comfort her, Terry had slid her arms around him, and hugged him and Londyn had felt it all. Gotten hit with the pains of betrayal, because no one had bothered to tell him.

Although a part of him understood why they’d not told him, it would be considered coercion, but look at what had now happened, Londyn was in pain and upset, could well reject him for what she’d felt.

He didn’t even have any solid evidence at this point that she was his Mate and he felt terrible, wanted to go out there to her and fix it. Make it alright, apologise and tell her he’d never do that to her again, and there it was he realised.

Why coercion was against the law, it was actually a very easy thing to do. He’d been swayed into thinking Londyn was his Mate in less than five minutes, and wanted to make it up to her.

Goddess, if this was done to him by a girl, and she pretended to have the pains of betrayal, and he did feel this bad, then likely being told by her that she’d forgive him if only he Claimed her, Marked and Mated her as a way to show her he truly meant it.

Londyn hadn’t made a single sound over there, he took a step back away from Gretta, as she reached out to touch him, and shook his own head ‘no’ and she raised an eyebrow at him. “Stand still young man.” She told him.

It was definitely him and if she touched him like she had the others Londyn was going to feel it, it would cause her to feel, the pains of betrayal. “It’s not coercion if I can prove it beyond a doubt. The entire council is here to see it. This has to be done for your own benefit, not for hers. So you understand the ramifications of what it will do to her if you touch another prior to the next full moon.”

“I won’t.” he stated, “It’s that simple.” His eyes moved to where he knew she was even though he couldn’t see her, and she couldn’t see him, she knew who he was and then there was a hand sliding up his back all soft and caressive to his own skin, and her heard Londyn’s cry of pain the moment that hand touched him. There was no way she could know the exact moment someone touched him, but she did.

“Enough.” He grated out and shot away from all of them “I didn’t know. Don’t do that to her, listen to her, you’re willingly inflicting the pains of betrayal on her.”

“Yes, unfortunately we do. To prove to you who she is, so you’ll not let that she-wolf near you again. Or any other you may have inside this pack.” Gretta told him. “It’s not something we enjoy doing, or want to do,

and it is something we rarely do as well. But it is necessary at times like this. Londyn is a young rogue alpha female, and she could kill anyone inside this pack that touches you. So you have to see it for yourself, understand the consequences, because we can’t blame her for killing those that would touch her mate in that manner. Rogues are not like pack wolves, their rules are different. They are all primal instincts.

He understood it, how could he not. His eyes were on where he knew her to be and the rest of the council stepped out of the way so he could actually see her. She was his Mate that he’d not scented out yet, and he’d harmed her, then the council had caused her harm to prove what she was to him.

“Londyn.” He murmured “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.” he tried to apologise to her and saw her pull herself from Zara and just get up and leave the room.

Stated in a flat, hard and cold tone “Do whatever you want. You like that she-wolf then go and fuck that girl for all I care.” And banged out of the room.

“Fuck.” He muttered, running a hand through his hair, but then he realised that not even her sisters were going after her and he knew why. It wasn’t up to any of them to fix it. Only he could fix it.

He was out the door after her and grabbed on to her arm, to halt her, “Londyn wait.” He pulled her around to face him and barely dodged the fist that came at him.
