Chapter 120
Denise POV
My attention had been on the entrance ever since I entered the hall again.

It wasn’t obvious but over time I had learned the act of covert surveillance. I had my attention anywhere else but the door. I only used my peripheral vision to check the door. The reception had thinned and the larger groups had broken up into smaller conversations.
I was talking to Maddox about a building restoration project he was advising with my eyes on the door, waiting for her to enter at any moment but she still hadn’t shown up.
I had spent enough time before the wedding running quiet calculations about what would happen if Alyssa appeared. how Kieran would react? Would Dante try to advantage of the moment? I thought about it so much but the situation never materialized till now.
The first thing I felt was relief. As long as she wasn’t here, there would be no confrontation, embarrassment and facing a situation I had been avoiding for a while.
The wedding had survived Dante, the mating ceremony and the bond dynamics. I had no intention of tempting fate to know if it would have survived Alyssa showing
I felt disappointed or something close to it. I felt the way one did, when they have been prepared for an outcome that never arrived.
Some part of me had been waiting to see her and I hadn’t.
I mulled over what the facts I knew and separated it from what I didn’t know.
Alyssa had stayed away. She had been at the hospital when Eli needed surgery. She would known about the wedding, it was too high profile to keep under wraps and she had chosen not to come.
She had also told him to go back to his fiancée.
I didn’t know what she felt for him or the history she had with him. I had no idea why she agreed to an arrangement that placed her outside the formal structure of his life. It was impossible to tell if she was letting him go or simply waiting at a measured distance.
The only thing I knew for certain was that her actions protected his marriage. I had no idea what to do the way that thought made me feel,
I eventually excused myself from Maddox and moved toward the quieter side of the room.
I thought about the clip. I had kept telling myself that it was something I needed to get to the situation I was getting into but if I was being truthful, I also kept it because I was afraid of letting it go before I understood it.
But Kieran and I were mated now but he had no idea that I had a recorded clip of him from a camera that

shouldn’t have been there.
I wanted him to trust me enough to tell me the truth himself.
The absence continued to bother me because if she showed up, it would be easier to hate her but she hadn’t come and I couldn’t stop thinking about her.
What kind of person lets the man she loves walk away? I attacked that assumption because that was it was I had no idea she loved him. Eli might have been the most important piece in this or Alyssa/just knew how to survive without asking for anything… Just like me, I could understand that all too well and perhaps that was the problem.
Andrea found me eventually, she walked up to me near the garden door. “You have been quiet.”
“I’m thinking.”
Andrea came to stand beside me.
“You have been thinking about Dante?”
I looked at her. “No.”
I thought about it and sighed.
“Alyssa has been on my mind for a while now.”
It was the first time I had said her name out loud.
“What about her?” Her voice dropped.
“She didn’t come.”
She was quiet for a moment. “Yes she didn’t…”
“Did you expect her to?”
“I expected she would understand why she shouldn’t.”
I looked at her.
“That means you know her very well.” I said.
“I do to some degree. We never really know people now do we?”
I turned back toward the garden. “I kept expecting her to show up.”
“Were you expecting her to show up?”
“Yes but I’m glad she didn’t come.”
She looked at me.
