Rebirth of the Alpha's Slave Mate (Samantha and Kade) novel Chapter 101

Chapter 101

Elena’s POV

“Both of us?” Serena looked like Kade had just slapped her across the face when he suggested that we take turns caring for Ivy. “What are you talking about, Kade?”

I didn’t show it, but I was just as shocked as she was. But after considering for a moment, I realize that this felt like one of Kade’s little tests. It seemed to me like he was toying with us, trying to see which one of us would crack first. He was trying to see which one would make a better Luna-and perhaps a better mother for Ivy.

At first, I wondered whether he was doing it for pure amusement or genuine concern for Ivy. The man I knew seemed to only do such things for amusement and cruelty. The man I had seen multiple times today, however, the one who cared about his family… I wasn’t so sure about him.

Maybe he really did just want the best for Ivy. And with two women fighting over the right to take care of her, this was the perfect opportunity for him to pick the better option. I was determined to be that option; not that I wanted to marry him, of course, but if it would give me opportunities to get closer to Ivy, potentially even to run away with her, then I would do whatever it took.

Kade looked between the two of us. “You both obviously care about Ivy enough to fight over her,” he explained. ” If you can get along for five minutes, then maybe you can both be around her. Problem solved.”

Serena’s eyes narrowed to slits. “But Elena is your prisoner! How can you trust her with Ivy?”

Kade paused, glancing down at Ivy, who was still fussing in his arms. Her tiny fist, having come free from her swaddle, was reaching for me. Without a word, he handed her to me. The moment I took her in my arms and placed my hand on her forehead, she went calm and quiet.

“Clearly, Elena has a knack for taking care of her.” Kade looked at me. “Can I trust you with my daughter? Can you use that ability to soothe her when she’s feeling ill?”

I nodded vehemently. It would give me a chance to practice my healing, to hone it, until I could one day heal her completely. “Of course. I would never hurt her. I only want the best for her. If you think this is for the best, then I’ll happily accept the dynamic and share the duty with Serena.”

Kade looked at Serena then. “Can the same be said for you?” he asked. “Can you share the burden with Elena?”

Serena’s face turned beet red. She looked like she wanted to argue, but seemed to think better of it and snapped her mouth shut. Finally, she nodded, although I was pretty certain she stopped breathing entirely with the force of trying to keep her cruel words in.

“Well. That’s settled. You two can take turns spending time with Ivy.” Kade took the now-content Ivy from me and made his way over to the door. “And maybe then, Ivy can choose whose company she prefers in her own way.”

Kade strode out of the room after that, leaving his implication hanging clearly in the air.

He would choose whichever one of us was better suited to be a mother to Ivy. The other would lose their privileges to care for Ivy.

I certainly wasn’t concerned about Serena, if that was the case. Serena had no experience with babies, and besides, Ivy was my daughter; no one could take care of her better than I could.
