Chapter 112
Elena’s POV
Panic flooding my veins, I rushed over to my door and knocked. A moment later, it opened, and my guard peered at me warily through the crack-still in my nightgown, barefoot and wild-eyed.
“Yes?” he asked.
“Is Ivy alright? Can you check on her?”
My guard furrowed his brow. “What?”
“Just check on her!” I insisted. “Please, it’s urgent! I promise I’ll behave-I just need to know if she’s okay.’
My guard hesitated for a moment, but finally left briefly to check Ivy’s nursery. I paced my room, gnawing worriedly on my lower lip. Was Ivy sick again? Was it worse this time? Even if I had to reveal my healing ability, I would do it if it meant getting to see her-and getting to heal her, if that was even possible.
The minutes seemed to tick on forever while I waited for my guard to return. Finally, after what felt like an eternity of pacing and worrying, my door opened again. I rushed over, heart leaping into my throat at my guard’s concerned expression as he stepped into the room.
“Her condition has worsened,” he said quietly. “The healer is in her nursery as we speak.”
My stomach dropped. “Can I go to her?” I asked. “I might be able to help-”
“Absolutely not.” Serena suddenly stepped into my room with that fucking smug gleam in her eyes. “The healers can take care of her just fine. In fact, Kade personally told me to come and make sure you understand that you are not to go near her.”
I frowned. “But-”
“Ah ah ah. No buts,” Serena said, waggling her finger at me as if I were a petulant child. “You’ll stay put right here like a good little bird. And if you try to go near Ivy, you’ll face the consequences.”
Serena left after that, ignoring my protests. My guard shot me a somewhat pitiful look before he, too, stepped out of the room and locked the door behind him.
I spent the rest of the night pacing, terrified.
Come morning, the sensation of pain and anguish in the bond I shared with Ivy was still just as intense as before. I could hear Ivy’s cries throughout the house, but no one would let me see her. I couldn’t even convince my guard to let me get a glimpse of her, no matter how much I tried.
It was unbearable, hearing those cries echoing through the house and knowing that there was nothing I could do about it. For all I knew, my baby might be dying and no one would let me come close to her. She might die before I could even see her again.
By midday, I couldn’t take it anymore. I begged my guard to at least let me wander the gardens, if only to get away from the sound of Ivy’s shrill cries. To my surprise, he finally relented and let me walk around outside while he followed at a distance, giving me some space.

I hadn’t realized just how many days I had spent cooped up inside until I set foot in the crisp air and felt like I could breathe for the first time. But it wasn’t enough. My wolf was raging at my insides, desperate to get to Ivy.
Trying to control myself, I wandered the rose garden, trailing my fingers across the barren shrubs. My thumb pricked on a thorn, but I hardly felt the pain. The bead of blood that swelled on the tip of my finger only served to fascinate me. I stared at it for a long moment, completely in shock and devastated by thoughts of my baby girl feeling the pain of even so much as a finger prick.
“Elena?”
The sound of a soft voice calling out to me made me look up, and I saw Nellie standing behind a nearby tree, beckoning to me. The sight of her made my blood instantly boil, but when I saw the panic in her eyes, I feared that she had bad news about Ivy, so I meandered closer to her, careful not to make my guard suspicious.
